Random thought from a Republican: Who won the cival war
I thought Iraq was in a civil war? I never here that anymore on NBC or CNN, they told me Iraq was so bad and that we needed to get out, that it was chaos and no military strategy could ever bring the violence down. Did the evil US conquerors leave? So who won the civil war? What happened to all the violence? Has NBC been censored? Whats going on, I mean the very bias and neutral proud American Harry Reid said the war was lost as our troops were over their getting shot at almost a year ago. What happened? He was right wasn't he? WT Hell is going on??!!?!?! A buddy of mine called me from Iraq and said things have gotten much better because of the the Surge and despite what Lib's tried to do and make us lose like cowards, we triumphed like Americans always have done, standing up for human rights and liberty across the world, no matter the threat or corers ion. I know he's crazy though because I'm sure a liberals and democrats that preach defeat stateside know better. After all the military listens to our elected president and that's just crazy and though people don't really even want to hurt us, the war on terror doesn't exist and we are just occupying Iraq right?
So what happened, does anyone know? Who won the civil war? Anyone? 11 comments from 7 users

I think ouir soldiers know alot but they arent talkin..one thing that bothers me is these guys are doing things like taking out snipers killing advisarys and watching their friends being killed pretty regularly over there..... pretty much the same type thing as viet nam and our other wars..... they see death everyday and when they come home they are afraid to tell anyone they are having problems dealing with the war and things that happen to them while over there. When they return if they talk about it they will get violated and their leave to visit home is revoked. Coming home to see their loved ones is what kept them going through all that and they arent ready to give it up easily...They are afraid they will end up going to a phsyc ward instead..so alot of them are keeping their mouths shut and turning to alchohol and drugs to forget instead of seeking the help they need... its a stiuation my son and his buddys back at base are going through right now..Im worried that when the dust settles he might start having relapses from holding it all in..I know hes got things he needs to talk about but I only get it in small pieces...and mostly when hes had a beer or two. His mind and verbage are totally soldier right now..infact when hes discussing small things he went through ..he uses the soldier slang hes been taught during the conversation and now it seems like a more automatic dialect than his own english. Its almost robotic and scary for his mom and me..hes not the same young man that left us last year..but we love him and will be there if he needs us. posted by

Pentagon Announces Troop Deployments Of 42,000 To Iraq, Afghanistan
WASHINGTON — The Pentagon on Monday announced upcoming deployments of more than 42,000 troops, including 25,000 active duty Army soldiers who would be sent to Iraq beginning in the fall to replace troops scheduled to come home by year's end. The deployments would maintain a level of 15 brigades in Iraq, or roughly 140,000 troops _ the number military leaders expect will remain on the warfront at the end of July, once the currently planned withdrawals are finished. As part of the announcement, The Pentagon alerted four National Guard Army brigades, or about 14,000 troops, to begin preparing for deployments to Iraq beginning next spring, and one National Guard Army brigade, with about 3,100 soldiers, to prepare to deploy to Afghanistan in the spring of 2010. http://www.huffingtonpost.c... posted by

Well I must admit, putting up walls between neighborhoods has helped. Yeah, that's the hallmark of a democracy. Tell the families of the 52 U.S. soldiers killed last month that there is no civil war. posted by

The North won, BS. Thought they'd covered that in elementary school. . Oh, you meant the civil war in Iraq. Iran won. posted by

BS, the line I remember hearing was, "if we pulled the troops out of Iraq, there would be civil war." Instead, we sent in more troops (something Gen. Senseki urged at the beginning of this fiasco, though still not nearly what he recommended), spent more money, got a little smarter, and things have improved. Doesn't mean it's right, or solved, or even "successful", since there's no single good definition of success in this mess. Is there a civil war? No. Is the situation still very ripe for one? You betchum, Red Ryder. How do you define success? In traditional warfare, if there's still such a thing, one government's armed forces come in and the opposing government is deposed and collapses. That, unfortunately, is the easy part. We did that and we're very good at it. The tough part is running the country once you've "won" the war. The current administration can't run this country, much less Iraq's, and they're trying to do both. posted by

No one, I heard different from you, I heard that Iraq was in a civil war from mainstream media and that we had to leave because it wasn't our war. Success is easily defined and has been stated by many people Republicans and Democrats alike. It is a democratic government in Iraq run by the people, not by a tyrant or extremist group that controls by violence. Most importantly is one that has free and fair elections through out the government and can defend its people from radicals... RF, Iran didn't win anything other than convincing Obama that direct talks without preconditions, there by adding legitimacy and elevating their radical and down right wrong beliefs to a higher level, all the while killing Americans and continuing down their path to the complete destruction of Israel. As far as the Iraq civil war that does not and has never existed, Iran has won nothing.. posted by

Actually, BS, the mainstream media reported that the National Intelligence Estimate described Iraq as having "elements of civil war." The Bush administration has resisted calling it a civil war. This comment made me laugh: "It is a democratic government in Iraq run by the people, not by a tyrant or extremist group that controls by violence. Most importantly is one that has free and fair elections through out the government and can defend its people from radicals..." I had to re-read it to make sure you weren't talking about the U.S. Without the qualifier, "in Iraq," it would apply here....any may yet.

BS, Iran replaced a secular enemy which had attacked them in the past with a religious government of its own sect. Either the current Maliki government (friendly to Iran) or Madhi Army (friendly to Iran) will emerge from the civil war on top. Tehran won the civil war the day they tricked us into invading. posted by

Gotta ask you supe. What do you think about Gates saying we should talk with Iran, and what do you think of McCain having said that since Hamas is in charge of the Palestinians we should talk to them, before he did another about face?
