Going out of business in Bakersfield!

BAD NEWS:

One of the largest Ford dealers in the northern part of the Central Valley has shut down, one of several well-known regional companies apparently succombing to the weak economy.

Elk Grove Ford, based in the in the Elk Grove Auto Mall, closed Friday evening.

Owner Keil Enterprises has not commented publicly on reasons for the shutdown. The number of people losing their jobs is not known. Earlier this year it shut down its Great Valley Chrysler-Jeep-Mazda-Isuzu dealership in Sacramento.

Iconic Central Valley recreational vehicle dealership owner Dan Gamel is also shutting down, closing all six of his company’s outlets, from Bakersfield to Redding. The action will cost about 200 people their jobs.

The company, once described as the nation’s fourth largest RV dealer, shut down other locations in Santa Rosa and Chico earlier in the year, saying the weak economy, the credit crunch and high gas and diesel prices were the reasons.

And the six-store furniture retailer RoomSource Furniture & Accessories of Sacramento, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.

The company has been in business for 11 years. Going-out-of-business sales are underway. About 200 workers will lose their jobs.

Look for more of this locally, according to my sources there are hundreds of local businesses on the brink...all the cheap and easy credit spending has come home to roost.

"Americans chickens have come home to roost"!

The same company that closed Elk Grove Ford also shuttered their longstanding Mazda-Izuzu dealership on Fulton in Sacramento not too long ago.  Credit is becoming vise tight these days for a lot of businesses.

Dan Gammel was ran out of town 20+ years ago for the fraud his company committed regarding loan applications for RV's. He only returned here after his 20 years were up. Good Riddance Dan, hope you're done now!

RV's, especially motor homes, would be a bad business to be in right now.  The g'kids are looking into a travel trailer and he found 3 columns of them for sale last week.  Just the trailers alone.

The tent trailers would seem suitable, especially in this day. Problem is no bathroom in them but if your going to a camp ground...shouldn't be a problem.

I think some have portapotties in them.  I talked to them about that.  He seems agreeable but she wants the trailer.  They found a small toy hauler and I commented if I had kids, that's what I'd want..a playroom for them if the weather is bad or at night.  Also a place to haul bicycles and tricycles, playpens etc.

Well, unfortunately, in Feb. we traded our older RV for a newer one.  Of course, had we known the gas was going to spike we probably would not have done that.  We are going to continue with our plans to accompany our daughter & her family to Virginia in August, but I dare say it will be the last long haul trip we take in the RV for quite some time. How sad, Been retired for a year and now can't afford to go anywhere!  May as well go back to work!!!  Or, work out of my house - yuk.

witterpitters:  You sound exactly like me and my husband.  We have been retired for one year too.  We have huge beautiful 5th wheel, which we had planned on traveling in -- HA, HA.  That is a big laugh now.  But we still go to Kernville as there are many lovely campgrounds up there.  There is River Nook, Camp James and some others right on the river, but don't know the names.  If interested for riverview camping in Kernville, just email me and I have plenty of information about all the campgrounds in Kern Valley.   We used to go to beach all the time, but now cannot afford the cost of gas.  It costs a lot to pull the trailer over the mts at Maricopa and Hwy 46 is just too dangerous if you ask me.  My husband is the one who refuses to drive on Highway 46.  So I go along with what he says.

By the way I do work at home on-line.  It is not really that bad.

That's why we bought the VW camper.  Saw this coming.

Remember the old teardrop trailers that were built in the 1930 - 1950's.  They were a sensible alterantive to camping in a tent.    I understand a model is being built today but they're hard to find because they sell  out so quickly.

A teardrop is what I would like for me and my husband.

My son in law manuevered a 29' trailer on a white knuckle ride to White River campground recently.   My daughter didn't make a peep during the entire ride because she "didn't want him to lose confidence in himself".  As for me, I would have walked.

Audrey, they sell plans for 'em on eBay.  Not many of the old ones available, though.
