Discuss It: What would your "mid-life crisis" car be?
We all know the mid-life crisis stereotype of trying to feel young and sexy again by buying a hot sports car and dumping your spouse for a twenty-something. Don't tell my husband, but I kind of started to understand that mid-life crisis impulse today. I've always had a thing for very little vintage convertibles. The smaller, the better. (Yes, I know. I am a little strange.) I saw this car I saw for sale in the classifieds.... Triumph, convert . 1967, Spitfire, red with black top, $3,200/OBO, 345-5973 or 246-6813 .... and the wheels (in my head) started turning. That's SO tempting! But, If I bought it, I would probably need to leave my husband for a mechanic since I don't know how to take care of a vintage car. I kind of like my husband, so I'll have to pass for now. So tell me, what car would make you feel like you have a new pep in your step? If you were to have a mid-life crisis today, what car would you buy? 23 comments from 18 users

So far, it's a 1971 De Tomaso Panterra (but I don't drive it much) and a 1962 Willy's Wagon Gasser drag wagon (Still in pieces in the shop). I LOVE cars! If I ever get my drag wagon finished, the next one will be a Porche 930 Turbo. posted by

I once bought a house that came with a Fiat 850 Spider convertble. I gave to an ex BF. I have been thinking about buying a new built from original parts DeLorean. I saw something on TV about the DeLoreon Motor Company (in Texas) where you can have them build you a new one. http://www.delorean.com/ Talk about your time machines. posted by

Wow, this should be the most popular blog for a while. Should be fun. Sage and random- mine is a regular 68 Type 2. One of these days, one of these days... tonyh- a Pantera, I'll try to stop drooling. You need to drive it more...no excuses. As for the overpriced VW (the Porsche, don't worry, I make fun of Scott Coxs' Boxster all the time about that), I'll see your 930, and raise you a 935 dp motorsports Cabriolet. Or even the original Gemballa's. Those were wild. As for me...it would be an 1987 triple white (exterior, interior, and rims) Lamborghini Countach with both wings. There's a black one sitting in the driveway of the guy that lives just south of White Lane on Union. First saw that in '89 I think. Wish he would drive it around town more. But now I would take a Murcielago Roadster. Or the Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport that just came out...only $2 million, lol. Of course, as an 80's teen, I could go on all day about this. posted by

I saw a commercial once where an older guy was driving around in a Ferarri with the top down and everyone stared at him as he passed with a self-satisfied look on his face. As the camera pulled away from him you could see the people (still staring) at his toupee, flapping around in the wind...that's my kind of mid-life crisis car. Old men and Saleens, Cobras, etc....it's just WRONG. posted by

THIS T-bird with a "candy apple" red exterior and white tuck and roll interior. It should, ideally, come with a gas pump in the trunk.

msjenny, got to disagree about your choice of the anniversary edition of the Countach. (Truly in jest, lol) They killed it by adding the "gills" to all the intakes and everything, directly taking styling cues from the earlier released Ferrari Testarossa. My choice was the 87 Countach, well, heck, anything actually before the anniversary edition, and got to have BOTH wings. I had many posters of the red one. Also the CHP painted one. I've always been a Lambo fanatic, drooling at every concept car (the Estoque and Embolado come to mind, even the Portofino that was built when Chrysler owned them) and new release there is. posted by
