If you're a subscriber to our Daily Digest email newsletter (and many of you are; it's our second-most popular newsletter), you've become accustomed to a pretty generic daily overview of The Californian's news and opinion delivered every day at 6 a.m. Pacific.
On Tuesday, we rolled out a fresh look for Daily Digest (sample at left), as well as added a bunch of new elements. The new Daily Digest includes pretty much everything as before, but we've added this stuff: • A top daily video, with links to much more local video we're shooting for bakersfield.com these days. • A list of the most-read stories on bakersfield.com. • An image of that day's Californian front page (with link to a larger PDF version). • A link to front pages from the last couple weeks • Highlights from bakersfield.com blogs and Inside Guide reviews • A variety of opinion, including links to that day's columnists • More standing links to things like the Daily Poll, obituaries, Associated Press stories, and more. •And coming soon will be a list of the most-read classified ads on bakersfield.com We've also moved up the delivery time to 4 a.m. Pacific to better serve our early risers. And, speaking of email newsletters, we recently launched a new local entertainment newsletter called B Entertained. It's delivered each Thursday, and is a good guide for your weekend around town. And you'll also want to check out a newsletter we'll launch soon called Weird News. We just started accepting subscribers, and the sign-ups are through the roof. You can sample the types of stories that will be in the newsletter by visiting our Weird News page. You can sign up for those, and any of the other 11 we offer, at our Newsletters page. As always, let us know what you think.
You might have noticed the return of Bakosphere, a group blog tucked in that ever-growing spot where Bakersfield and the Web collide.
Bakosphere originally was launched in December 2005 on the Typepad blogging platform that once powered all of Bakersfield.com's blogs. After periodic bursts of enthusiasm, it died for lack of attention in September. We have since restored it within Bakersfield.com on the homegrown Bakomatic publishing system that powers all of our blogs. You can read more about Bakosphere's history and mission in the the blog's profile. So, why am I writing about Bakosphere on BdotCOM a month after it relaunched? Well, good question. You see, today we launched The Bakosphere Blogroll, which runs along the left-hand side of this page. Through the Blogroll, we want to highlight to great work being done by other bloggers in the Bakosphere. If there’s a blog covering local topics that should be on the list, let us know. And, if you want to stay in the Bakosphere, you can scroll down to the bottom left of the Bakosphere blog to subscribe to its RSS feed. Or you can always get there quickly by visiting bakosphere.com (which will redirect to the new blog). |
