First photo of wounded officer released
The Bakersfield police have released a photo of Officer Dennis Eddy receiving a donation to a fund set up to help him and his family deal with his injuries. Eddy had part of his leg amputated last week, after being wounded in a shoot out with a gang member earlier this month. The donation was from the Choir Boys Motorcycle Club, a group of active and retired law enforcement officers who are dedicated to the support of families of law enforcement officers who are injured or killed in the line of duty. 11 comments from 11 users

There but for the grace of God goes any one of us - but it won't be one of us because Officer Eddy took the bullet for us. posted by

In the days following the shootings there was a rash of unbelievably ignorant postings insinuating that the BPD had somehow decided to shoot their fellow officer to bolster their case. Do people actually believe this? It's never good when someone loses their life when it could have been avoided, but it was the fleeing felon's own acts that got him killed. It could have been avoided, but not by the police. I would like to thank the BPD and in particular Officer Eddy for their service to the community. Thank God there are men and women out there with the willingness to take on such a difficult and sometimes thankless job. Be safe. posted by

It seems that some times people take for granted our 1st rate police department. It also seems that we are not grateful. I argue that this can not be farther from the truth. Officer Eddy, to be hated for your uniform instead of your character bothers us all. I know that God has been overwhelmed at prayers for you. It is time for all of us to tell these heroic people how well we sleep at night with the security that the BPD affords us. posted by

I'll add my thanks, especially since the police are asked to do an impossible job in the face of impossible odds against them. It only makes the situation worse when even our paper TBC editorializes against them and makes them look like the bad guys while allowing the glorification of criminals. posted by

Hey samheath, what on earth are you talking about? TBC "editorializing against" law enforcement? It's absurd and irresponsible to make claims like that. posted by

freesafety, it may be technically true that TBC is not dumb enough to come right out and write an editorial against law enforcement. However, the manner in which things are reported (or ignored) and presented does show a definite slant. Consider:
My curiosity is piqued, though, by some of Steve Swenson's comments on blogs and elsewhere. He clearly is a quick and able reporter, and does ask some of these questions, yet the information rarely appears in the initial articles. So, does the reporter get edited to reach the conclusion the editor wants to see?
