It's getting hot

Well it passed 100 degrees for the first time this year.

As of 12:54 p.m. the temperature had reached 101 degrees, according to the national weather service.

Temperatures are expected to reach 104 today.

Here are some facts about hot weather in Bakersfield.

• Consecutive high temperatures of 105 degrees or greater in Bakersfield 26 days from July 6, 1908 to July 31, 1908.

• Consecutive high temperatures of 95 degrees or greater in Bakersfield 100 days from June 8, 1908 to Sept. 16, 1908.

• The earliest 100 degree weather has hit Bakersfield in a year: April 23, 1910.

TIPS FOR THE HEAT

Never leave children or pets in a vehicle, even for short periods of time

Wear a wide-brimmed hat and loose-fitting, light-colored clothes

Drink plenty of non-alcoholic fluids

Avoid prolonged exposure to the sun, especially during the midday and afternoon. When possible, stay in the shade or an air-conditioned room

Periodically check on children and the elderly

Make sure that pets and farm animals have plenty of shade and water

And the sky is blue (black at night) and water is wet.  Come on, BNT, please no masters of the obvious, lol. I still crack up at the fact that all news agencies treat this as "breaking news" every year.
