MIssing guns is a familiar story
It was a blisteringly hot day in August 2001 when I covered the last major theft from the sheriff's department property room. I remember clearly standing outside the property building, which is downtown, and listening to then-Sheriff Carl Sparks talk about losing a kilo of cocaine and quarter-pound of meth. Sparks, who was a very good public speaker, was basically apologetic in his tone. According to the sheriff's department, the missing drugs were never found and they still don't know what happened to them. Back in 2001, they hoped they had been inadvertently destroyed. Check out the attached PDF for the full story. or if you just want to see what our front page looked like in 2001 (there was a lot less color.) -- Davin McHenry 1 comments from 1 users
