Details, corrections emerge from Monday's fatal crash

Yesterday we reported a fatal crash on Highway 58 that left two Bakersfield men dead. The pickup they were driving in went out of control on Washington Street for reasons still unknown and hit a guardrail, sending it airborne. The pickup then flew into the freeway where it barreled into a big rig carrying two trailers.

We received a call from the driver’s wife and the big rigs company spokeswoman who said they were disappointed in the coverage and details of the crash. Jennifer Feuerstein of T&T Trucking, Inc. said:

“As a company we are incredibly disappointed in the manner this story was reported yesterday. The facts of the incident are incorrect and very skewed. Our driver was traveling the highway when the pick-up truck "HIT HIM" on the right side of his first trailer. Our tractor unit did not have any contact with the pick-up truck unlike your story reports and your incorrect diagram displays.  As if the incident yesterday was not upsetting enough for our driver, having the accident reported incorrectly and insinuating he hit a pick-up head-on and killed two men is even worse not to mention he narrowly escaped death himself. Please correct your information to reflect that of the police reports and the truth of the matter.”

We reported initial details given to us by both California Highway Patrol and Bakersfield Police Department who said the truck landed on the freeway and was immediately hit by the semi. The highway patrol said this morning that the truck went airborne and, while still in the air, ran into the semi’s first trailer. The semi did not hit the truck head on.

The Californian is correcting the graphic and the story with the new details of the crash.

Ya and that was family, jerk.  Show some sensitivity.

Every time some Mexican gets killed, one of your kind show up and claim that he or she was "family." You're a liar.

The cold hearts of some folks can never be underestimated, For around 3 hours I thought I knew these gentlemen.I am glad those I know are safe~ and I am very sorry to the families who lost loved ones that terrible day.

One moment of inattention behind the wheel can be so devastating.   Condolences to the families.

In response to the comment posted by Johnburnssucks, I think you suck. How dare you post such a statement about these two young men? What is wrong with you? These guys have mothers who are mourning along with many, many other relatives and friends. I happen to be one of them, so why dont you do us a favor and go post your ignorant comments somewhere else or even better no where else
