Kids and the shenanigans they get into. I bet they were model students and their parents never had a moment's trouble with them. posted by

Unfortunately, Sage, being juvies they will get a "slap" because their attorney will say "they are just kids, they come from poor homes, and it was just a couple of bums anyway." Yada Yada Yada. IF these punks of are of a race other then white, then that card will be played too. How sad. What will they learn? 1) play the race card; 2) play the kid card; 3) play the poor card; 4) play I'm underprivileged and my momma don't care card. Any or all of the above will get it done. And people wonder why we have gangs running Bakersfield.

It took 5 juveniles to beat this 81-year-old up? 5? Are they midget juveniles? Are they maybe 3 years old or something? Was this old guy wielding nunchucks and brass knuckles? Were the juveniles blindfolded, and it was just a case of blind man's bluff gone wrong? posted by

If the old guy was white the gangsters would have been acting in self defense because he dissed them somehow. Wore the wrong colors, threw the wrong sign, or said " Get away from me you pieces of s#*t". CCW's should be available to anyone that is qualified to buy a handgun. posted by

Yeah, OB. It's pretty disgusting. The first thing I thought of was my grandpa when he was 81. He was so helpless and feeble, and he had Alzheimer's. All I know is if those little murderers did that to MY grandpa, I would haunt each and every one of them until the day they died. Those little punks don't KNOW mean until they've met the women in MY family. LOL posted by

Had a friend that retired, moved to AZ., the first week, he was beaten the same and died for the five dollars in his pocket. He wasn't 100 lbs. soaking wet. posted by

No doubt they are all gang members who are good to their mommas, have 2+ children they need to support, just got a new job that was starting Monday, rejoined their mommas church last month and, most importantly, "just starting to turn their lives around". posted by

Vanity and Sage, I totally agree with you two and many more of the above. These little hoodlums are the future criminals of Kern County. Try them as adults and besides why were they out at 530am? Weren't these parents looking for them? Where did they think these idiots were? Here we go again, we'll hear the poor us story from these parents. posted by

Unbelivable. He lived for 81 years to be beat up and killed by kids. This is the saddest thing I have heard. We need to all be active in watching our streets. What were these kids doing out at this hour? God only knows. Put them in front of the firing squad and be done with it. Save the tax money. posted by

One is as young as 13 years old. The mother said she let her son spend the night at one of the other kids house and this is what happen. They are very young but they all know right from wrong. They all need to be tried as adults. This is wrong. These little thugs should have been home in bed. I once again blame the parents. (EDIT) The news said the man was homeless, I did not mean to offend anyone)

Given the kind of "role models" of our national leaders and the encouraging of breeding for a welfare check without accountability and no thought for the future of the resulting children, the violence and perversion fed daily to children through TV, we have evolved into a society that behaves as though it hates children and the result is producing monsters like these conscienceless thugs. As a nation we have failed children and families and the result will be such violence increasing here in Kern County and elsewhere across America. posted by

Poor man, when I read this yesterday about the beat..I kept thinking of his life and being beaten at his age. These kids need help and need to do some time. Did anyone see about the man who beat the child on the road side outside Turlock?

Oh God, sf. I saw that story, too. They said on the news yesterday it was a BABY that guy beat up. A BABY! The baby died from its injuries, and the man was shot and killed by the helicopter cops who were the first to arrive on the scene. SICK SICK SICK! posted by

Timec- I seen one of those bum fight videos years ago and turned it off crying. (Im a big baby). It was sad and sickening to think some one is getting rich off this sick business. You are right these kids are old enough to know right from wrong and them and the parents should face the consequences. SF, I hadn't read the story but that is sooo sad. A helpless baby, well I'm glad that sick individual is dead and KUDOS to the helicopter team that killed him. posted by

I agree you guys. I have a sweet, giggly, chubby little girl baby (6 months old.) What kind of evil gets into the heart of a man who does this sort of thing? It's the darkest, vilest, nastiest form of evil I've ever heard of. Good riddance, Sicko! posted by

timec, I also saw the bum fight video years ago. But I doubt these little punks ever saw it. They were probably just out, committing crimes, when they came across the 2 old men dumpster diving. They probably started off taunting the men, then it escalated to them assaulting them. Like I said above, a pack mentality. And to those who wonder why these kids were out at 5:30 am. This neighborhood isn't like a middle class "Leave It to Beaver" neighborhood. It is lower class and gang and crime infested. The parents were probably raised the same as they are raising their kids. Most are on welfare and have criminal records themselves. Drug and alcohol abuse is often a way of life. So honestly, their kids have little chance of becoming productive citizens. posted by

The old guy was on their turf, man. Like dogs peeing on every corner of their little universe, these gangsters also mark their territories with paint can graffiti, unquestionably establishing ownership of their personal section of the world. It's clearly the old guy's fault for failing to read the "handwriting" on the walls and fences before having the disrespect to walk on their property. Of course I'm being sarcastic, but that's the simplistic belief system and moral code some kids learn from birth as taught them by example of their older brothers, sisters, neighborhood heroes and even their parents. It's hard for us to fathom, but many kids raised in the subculture of "hoods" formed in the slums and ghettos of our cities simply don't know anything different. Add to that the myriad social and economic conditions affecting these partitioned pockets of sub societies and you have a social disorder with behavioral codes defying all civilized logic. Some, most, or even all of these angry, sociopathic kids will find themselves in juvenile detention facilities and eventually in prison where they will earn their street creds and learn their social skills. Eventually, they will all be released from custody and return to their respective neighborhoods where the unsalvageable psychopaths among them will commit more violent crimes before returned to captivity. Some, before they return to prison will calm down long enough to have babies who will be condemned to the same ugly cycle. A few of the luckier and smarter ones will have epiphanies, find jobs, educate themselves, marry and become productive members of main stream society with children who may even go on to colleges and universities and become leaders. Until we find effective ways to deal with this significant social issue, the diseased hoods will continue to fester and spread, producing growing legions of sociopaths and psychopaths until the prisons are unable to hold any more. Any ideas?

Ideas, Saber? Hmmm. You mentioned "civilized logic" in your post. Where can we direct these kids to take that class? Wouldn't that be nice? Or just go Clockwork Orange on every kid after his/her first offense; clamp their eyes open and drench their brains with horrifying images that magically turn their hearts to gold as a result. Come on philanthropists, chime in! posted by

These kids get off on this crap!! They will be considered heroes by their other gangster buddies. And thier mamas will all claim theye were framed by the police because of the color of their skin. Cowards. Each and every one of them are monsters and I hope they spend the rest of their miserable little existences in prison. But dont you fret bleeding hearts. Their mamas will have brand new lil babes to nuture and mold into worthless pieces of crap in no time. posted by

It's time to start holding court in the street. Jail, prison, juvie, have no deterrent. There are some horrific crimes being perpetrated on law abiding citizens, children and in this case, an 81 year old man! Business as usual is, if they don't get off on a technicality or PROBATION for crissakes, they go to Youth Authority until they're what? Eighteen? Twenty-one? Then to prison until they're twenty-five, right? Then the lovely little kiddies will come out worse monsters than they are now. Can you imagine that? YA, prison, does nothing for creeps like this except mold them into creatures we sure as hell don't want to live around. Prison is not a deterrent because, prison, really, ain't as freakin' bad as you think it is. These people are at HOME in prison. They get to kick it with the homies and smuggle drugs in and watch TV, play cards, eat three meals a day, intimidate, start riots. There's people out here on the streets that would LOVE to have three meals a day! They should build prisons underground so WE don't have to look at 'em! Single cells, 6'x3'. No window, no chair, no TV, no radio, two MEAGER meals a day, no "yard", no cards, no NOTHIN'. Golly, that wouldn't be so much fun, would it? Be a hell of a deterrent though. But with punks like these five cowards? Well, since there's no alley in back of the jail, just take 'em out and strap 'em down on the railroad tracks and wait for the next train. Think I'm kidding? Oh heck, just do it the easy way, shoot the creeps. Instant justice would be (is) a deterrent. Otherwise, what's is the deterrent? Death penalty? What death penalty? Life in prison with the homies? Gimme a break. The penalty should fit the crime. So give five husky guys baseball bats, line the punks up and beat them to death. One by one! Now THAT'S deterrent. On the other hand, send them to YA gladiator school and perhaps they'll come out well rounded upstanding citizens. -NOT! .............uh, like I said in the beginning, hold court in the street. Just like they do. posted by
