It's about time we started making these kids / adults take responsibility for breaking into property to have a party.  I think there should be hefty fines to cover the expeses incurred by law enforcement for having to break these things up and deal with calling the parents of dozens of kids.  Also, restitution should be paid for any damage or inconvenience to the property owner.     I'm just sayin'

Yeah!  Maybe they should throw in a vandalism charge.  I'm sure these houses that are broken into aren't left in pristine condition.  Anyone caught there should be made to pay damages.  Dip into Mom & Dads pocket book and maybe they'll keep closer tabs on Junior.

Good!

Let's do the math...26 arrested..at $1,000 fine EACH...not a bad pay day..this is a time where we look the other way when the parents takes that switch to one's butt....PLUS pays for damages to the property...now that's justice...

Lets post the names of these 10 adults.

Ling, the $1000 fine ordinance was passed by the Kern County BOS. These arrests took place in the city limits, so it will not apply.

Cool...but do you really think that the D.A.'s office is going to let this slide...they can impose what ever they want...less the butt-whipping the parents will issue---IF they are parents

I AGREE WITH ALL THE COMMENTS ABOVE, BUT ONLY HAVE 1 QUESTION-- WHY DID THE NEIGHBORS OR WHO EVER CALLED IT IN WAIT TILL 2:30 AM ? COME ON PEOPLE WAKE UP THEY HAD TO HAVE STARTED EARLIER THEN THAT............................EVEN @ 4 PEOPLE PER CAR THAT MEANS THERE WERE OVER 6 CARS  AT AN ABANDONED HOUSE..............................

posted by dgrealish on Jun 23, 2008 at 01:46 PM

The noise, I would guess.  They were probably content to ignore the party until it interfered with their sleep.

ednpatc, how do you know what time the reporting person called the police? It says the police RESPONDED at 2:30am. Sometimes loud party calls hold for several hours before the police can get to them. And it says the house was vacant, not abandoned. You like to watch TV to learn about things, don't you? Shows like CSI Miami, Law and Order, etc.

I know where this street is and I can tell you 1) the parents of the juveniles probably had no clue where their kids were, 2) The parents of the juveniles probably could care less - the little dumpling was out of their hair, 3) The parents of the juveniles were probably drunk or high themselves, 4) The parents of the juveniles probably have no money to pay for anything except their own exsistence AKA: welfare.

But, are they going to force the parents to pay the $1,000.00's for each brat.

These kids could have come from all over town.

Remember those BYOB party's back in the 50's 60's, you call one set of people and have em to pass it on.  Before you know it, you have a house full.

We had many of those BYOB party's

Witters

I'll take your word for it.  This means that the parents won't have the wherewithall to pay a fine?  Make the kids work it off!

posted by OldBlue56 on Jun 23, 2008 at 02:37 PM

witterpitters is correct. It is a lower class neighborhood. And now that I think about it, I wonder if our favorite orange vested blogger was the one who called the police that night? Naw, he doesn't like the police....

Just don't ask them to take it out of their beer money, please.

Murph, see my comment above regarding the $1000 fine.

posted by murphyslaw on Jun 23, 2008 at 02:48 PM

I thought it was for all empty houses.

When juveniles break the law, they should impose fines on the parent. If they are on welfare, take it out of their monthly check....Then you can BET they will pay closer attention to where their kids are at 2 am.

I completly agree with all previous comments. These kids need to be punished badly. I am only 22, and a graduate of Centennial High School just in 2004, so I am not that far off from my partying days, but not ever once did we have the guts to break into one of these "vacant" houses, we either partied at a house of a friends, or did not party at all. I know for one, my friends and I partied pretty responsibly, and it makes me mad to see that these kids are breaking into houses, and vandalizing and stealing items from them. Not to mention the house party a few months ago where, if I recall correctly, a couple kids were beat up pretty badly. Common Bakersfield, fine these parents, and as stated earlier im sure they will pay attention to where their kids are at 2 A.M.

posted by hotandfoggy on Jun 23, 2008 at 03:36 PM

The kids probably told their parents that they would be spending the night at a friend's house.

POKIMAG:  Parents pay closer attention? no they won't. The parents don't give a [edit.]. No one will pay except you and me and the owner of the house. No matter when someone called the police, you can't tell me the neighbors didn't know that property was vacant. Hell some of the neighbors were probably AT the party. There is a vacant house around the corner from us that has been broken into so many times it no longer has windows just boards. Have the neighbors called the police? sometimes. IF the house was within MY view I'd be on the phone in a heart beat but there are some neighbors who are afraid of retaliation so they just shut their blinds and turn the TV up.

Back in the late 60's some kids stole my Impala and drove the hell out of it behind North High. Tore up the brakes, tires and some other stuff. The Sheriff Dept. caught them. I told them the kids could work off my  $150 deductible by cleaning up my yard for a couple of months. The PARENTS made each of these kids (who were all saving for cars of their own) clean out their savings accounts and repay not only me but the insurance company!  If anybody thinks that will happen with these kids, think again. It is the "NOT MY baby" mentality.

I do know that Sylvia Dr. has been a hot spot for several drive bys so I'm presuming the neighbors are afraid of the very people who are partying. As for making the kids and/or the parents pay up..................well, when pigs fly let me know.

I'm just saying that IF you take a chunk of their welfare check that us working stiffs pay for, they MIGHT wake up. That is the only thing they understand..."WHAT? They deducted money from my Free check...WHAT????"
