With more than 1,000 wildfires burning in California, it seemed impossible that Kern County would escape undamaged for long. That proved to be true Saturday as the Piute Fire in the mountains south of Isabella Lake doubled in size, and then doubled again, expanding to more than 2,500 acres by early Monday morning.
