Taft man caught after eluding officers for 10 years

This is a news release of the Kern County Sheriff's Office.
Please do not contact the Sheriff's Communications Center.

Date:  Wednesday, July 02, 2008
Time:  11:56:25 AM

Details:  On 6-29-08, at 0545 hrs., Deputy Joseph Malley arrested 39 yr. old Bruce, Dale, Pinkard of Taft on an outstanding CDC parole hold.  After being discharged from prison in the late 1980's Pinkard failed to meet the terms of his parole.  Pinkard had been eluding law enforcement for approx. ten years.  Pinkard had taken the name of his brother by falsifying Virginia State identity docuements.  Pinkerton represented himself to Deputy Malley under the brothers name including showing Malley a valid Virginia ID card with Pinkerton's photo on the card.  Deputy Malley continued to investigate and determined Pinkerton was falsley representing himself.  Pinkerton was booked at CRF on the parole hold.  Other pending charges against Pinkerton include forgery, falsifying state docuements, and false identification to a peace officer.

Kern County Sheriff's Department correction:

The initial press release mistakenly metions Bruce Pinkard's name as "Pinkerton".  The correct name is Bruce, Dale, Pinkard.

This guy didn't elude anyone:

WEATHERFORD, Texas  —  A man was sentenced to more than 4,000 years in prison Wednesday for sexually assaulting three teenage girls over two years.

A day after finding James Kevin Pope guilty, jurors sentenced him to 40 life prison terms — one for each sex assault conviction — and 20 years for each of the three sexual performance of a child convictions.

At the request of prosecutors, state District Judge Graham Quisenberry ordered Pope to serve the sentences consecutively, adding up to 4,060 years. He will be eligible for parole in the year 3209, according to the Parker County District Attorney's Office.

"We believe it was a just result," prosecutor Robert DuBoise said, adding that he was "overwhelmed" with the judge's decision to stack the sentences.
