Date:  Thursday, July 03, 2008

Time:  10:46:44 PM

Department Contact: John Lee

Phone:  758-4822

Details:

At about 8:00pm a Kern County Sheriff's Deputy was travelling westbound on Whisler Road approaching HWY #43. The deputy began to pass a truck in the westbound lane when the truck initiated a left turn. The deputy took evasive action by driving onto the South shoulder of Whisler Road. The deputy avoided a collision with the truck, but lost control of his patrol vehicle as it went across the East and westbound lanes onto the North shoulder. The patrol vehicle struck a telephone pole on the northside of Whisler Road.

The deputy was wearing a seatbelt and sustained no injuries.

The California Highway Patrol responded and will be conducted the traffic investigation.

The driver of the truck remained at the scene and provided statements to the CHP.
