Mirror, mirror on the truck...

Interesting details emerged today from of a Shafter Police investigation. Investigators are trying to find a truck and driver they believe hit and killed 17-year-old Nancy Medina of Oildale last week on Lerdo Highway before fleeing.

The truck’s side mirror broke on impact, and police put it back together. They took it to an auto parts dealer who confirmed for them the make and model of the pickup. A parts dealer also told police someone called looking for a front bumper to a similar vehicle.

The truck may be a Mitsubishi Mighty Max or a Dodge Ram 50. It would have damage to the left front side and missing the driver’s side mirror. Police also have a partial name of the driver, but have yet to release it.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to call 746-8500.

Please if you have any information please come foward! Look around you while your sitting at the stop light, at the grocery store while you walk to your car, anywhere you might be.  This vehicle didn't just go away! Being close to Nancy's family I feel there pain, and more than ever we need to  have some closure. There is nothing more worse than not knowing! Imagine this your daughter, sister, aunt, niece, and cousin. Please just take a moment to look around you!

I sincerely doubt if the guy will be driving around Kern County in a vehicle that, at this point in time, is hotter than a firecracker. More than likely he drove it somewhere else under the cover of darkness several days ago.

I wonder if this teenager always got so drunk that she stumbled into traffic?

This probably was an alchohol related accident.  Things would have been better for the suspect if he had just reported and suffered the consiquences.  Now they will probably throw the book at him.  And they should.  Leaving her there was a horrific act.  It always amazes how no one comes forward to say "hey, I know that car."

Do the right thing~ come forward.

hey oldblue56 who cares if she did, she is still a person and my cousin!! She was a human being and you are being very disrespectful. Don't you realize that she has a family who is mourning for her?  I hope if someone knows anything they come forward, so Nancy can rest in peace.

I am sorry tlfunk17. I meant no disrespect.

However, I think the proper phrase you should use is "she is my dead cousin".

And by the way, did Nancy get stumbling drunk often?

OB, your cynical views never cease to amaze me.

i have a question, have you always been so cold?? and what business is it of yours if she gets drunk often? I know that its not a wise decision to drink under age, but at least shes not out driving around and risking other people like the driver of the truck most likely was. tell me and be honest, a long long time ago, you know like when you still had a heart, did you ever once make a bad decision?

Her bad decision at age 17 got her killed.  You don't know that the driver of the pickup was drunk but they know for a fact that Nancy WAS drunk.   You're speculating.  We've all made mistakes in our youth and were lucky enough to survive them, this young woman wasn't.  Her actions have now destroyed another persons life as well.

I'm sorry for your loss but you really need to look at who was at fault here.

Like i said "most likely was drunk". if he wasnt then why did he run? The fault lies between the both of them. she shouldnt be out drinking, he should pay more attention, and if it couldnt be avoided then he should have stopped. who knows, if he would have stopped and called for help, she might have lived. Guess we wont know now.

Maybe it was an illegal alien without a drivers license. Maybe it was someone driving a stolen truck. Maybe it was a married man with his mistress. Maybe it was a crankster who had just committed a theft. Maybe it was a drug dealer with drugs with him.

There could be a LOT of reasons the driver didn't want to stop.

Often times we can use the tragedies of other families to avoid one in our own. Please as you read about this think about the teens in your family and plan to talk with them about what happened to this girl.   Warn your children about the dangers of hanging out with older adults who may want to drink with them.  Whatever the actions were that led up to her death  this child did not deserve to be left on the road like some stray animal.  What about the guy who was with her earlier?  Why did he not take her back home?  Was he obnoxious to her?  Was she trying to get away from him?  This guy needs to fill in some of these info gaps.  Not for us judgmental outsider know-it-alls, but for her family.

sys_mom, I think it would be safe to say that the police have told the family what happened before she was hit, since they talked to the man she was with earlier and they say he is not considered a suspect in her death.

I understand that OB.  But what was he doing with her in the first place? He was 28 she was 17.  Did he supply the drinks or was she already drunk when he picked her up?  Why did he let her out of the truck out there on Lerdo HWY?  Why not take her back home?  He contributed to the outcome here too.

Greeny-if you were in fact talking to her 5 minutes before she was found, how do you feel about all this? You stated she was very disoriented and scared, were you her friend?
