Arrest made in attempted homicide

Kern County Sheriff's Department and Arvin Police Department make arrest in attempt homicide case

This is a news release of the Kern County Sheriff's Office.
Please do not contact the Sheriff's Communications Center.

Date:  Thursday, July 17, 2008
Time:  11:48:37 PM
Department Contact: Ronald Maniord
Phone:  392-6003/201-2150

Details: On 7/13/08, Kern County Sheriff's deputies, from the Lamont Substation, responded to an assault with a deadly weapon report on Sunset Blvd. When they arrived, deputies found two (2) juveniles had been stabbed. Medical staff at Kern Medical Center, later, advised one of the juveniles had been stabbed near the heart.

Deputies contacted witnesses, at the scene, that gave statements indicating this was a gang related crime. They provided deputies with nicknames for the suspects in the stabbings.

Investigators with the Gang Suppression Section were able to identify the suspects in the stabbings, after peaking with the victims. Investigators then obtained arrest warrants for the two suspects.

Today, deputies from the Gang Suppression Section, the Lamont Substation and officers from the Arvin Police Department arrested Erick Alvarez, 20 yrs old, of Arvin, for attempt murder, assault with a deadly weapon, conspiracy and participation in a criminal street gang.

Alvarez was booked into the Central Receiving Facility for the above listed charges.

The second suspect in this case is still at large.
