Deputies arrest man for stealing from grocery store

East Bakersfield Substation Deputies arrest thief after a short search.

Details:

At 1212 hours today, a loss prevention officer witnessed Daryl Hicks (39) stole medication and other general merchandise from the Foddmaxx grocery store, located at the intersection of Niles Street and Fairfax Road. When they confronted him, he fled the store on foot. Deputies from the Kern County Sheriff's Office, East Bakersfield Substation responded to the area and spotted Hicks, who ran from them into a nearby neighborhood. Deputies quickly set a perimeter and after a short search, Hicks was found hiding in the backyard of a residence in the 1300 Block of Sterling Road. Hicks was taken into custody without incident and was booked in the downtown jail on a felony charge of Petty Theft with a Prior Theft Conviction.
