Kern County Fire Department Press Release

SHAFTER, CA – Sunday August 31st 2008 at approximately 1:06 P.M., a call
was received by the Kern County Fire Department for a structure fire in
the 500 block of Shafter Ave, in Shafter.  Approximately 30 Kern County
Firefighters responded to the incident, assisted by firefighters from
the prison service.

Upon arrival, crews were faced with liquid petroleum gas tanks (LPG) on
fire,  also a large amount of stored roofing and building paper
materials were becoming involved, these products are used in the
manufacturing process and are stored outside and at the southern end of
the property. The fire was being driven by a North wind towards adjacent
property.  2 school buses operated by Richland school district have been
damaged by fire.  A 1500 square foot property used as an educational
support services office is affected by the fire.  Firefighters are
currently working to extinguish this fire which is in the attic.
The value of property destroyed by fire is unavailable at this time.
This fire is in the same complex as an earlier fire. However, it has
been determined that this is a separate fire.

The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time.
