Sheriff's Department awaiting $4.5 million Huey helicopter

The Sheriff’s Department will soon have a roughly $4.5 million Bell Huey II helicopter that will help them in search and rescue and disaster operations, according to a statement by Bell.

Sheriff Donny Youngblood in September last year decided to send a letter to Bell helicopter corporation promising to buy the helicopter.

The Sheriff's Department's smaller helicopters, he said last year, just can't do some jobs, especially at high elevations. The new helicopter also does great work inserting large SWAT teams into areas across the county swiftly, Youngblood said.

As of Wednesday, that chopper was apparently delivered, according to the company. But the helicopter will not arrive for about a week or two, according to the Sheriff's Department.

— Jorge Barrientos, Breaking News Reporter

Correction: The blog post has been updated. The helicopter is ready to go, but will not arrive here for another week or two. Sheriff's staff is currently training for its use.

$4.5 million...Whoa!

Does anyone know how much of that would provide for an enhanced community outreach program provided through the department of human services? - increased salaries for real CPS workers and administrators who sympathize with the public's need to know....

Yeah let's give CPS an additional $4.5 Million after how many inquests from Dean Florez for poor performance. That would be like giving a child with a cavity in every tooth free reign of a candy store.

Chico,

You're not ready to do a standing backflip over the Huey (however, pretty it might be), are you?

That's a lot of money for transporting the swat team fast, anywhere in the county, as "we" need to, "as necessary"...just like it was back in Nam, or..humm...errr..., the first gulf war....!

Oh, Yeah!! Whoa!!!!!!!!!!
