Police asking for help in finding stolen phone

For Immediate Release      Tuesday, September 30, 2008

Possible stolen property

The Bakersfield Police Department is requesting the community’s assistance in
locating the owner of a possible stolen phone that was recently recovered.

On 9/16/08 the phone was recovered during a theft investigation.  Detectives
have reason to believe the phone was stolen but have not been able to identify or
locate the owner.  A possible name of the owner is “Olivia.”

The phone is an AT&T 8525 camera phone.  A photo of the same make and
model of the phone is attached.

Anyone with information on the possible owner of this phone is asked to call
Detective Don Cegielski at 661-326-3545.

Why don't the police take the phone to AT&T and have them do a serial number search?  That should at least give them the info as to where the bill goes each month or if the person has reported their phone stolen.

Hummm... why is Olivia's phone so important?

The police would need a search  warrant; that would mean extra paper work. It's easier if we do the work.

Too bad it wasn't a Nokia with a possible owner name of Nancy.  I'd sure ike to get mine back.

Wait !  Was it involved in a crime?  Maybe I don't want to be connected after all.  I've watched those crime shows ya know.

maybe, just maybe they have a suspect, and now need a victim. kinda difficult to prosecute someone for theft or possession of stolen property if no one reports it stolen.  however, it sure seems odd....
