Family of teen shot to death seeks donations for memorial fund, funeral set

The family of the 16-year-old boy shot to death last week when he answered the front door in an east Bakersfield apartment is asking for donations for a memorial fund.

June Juvon Haydon, an East High junior, was killed the night of Dec. 23 as he was spending time with family on the 1900 block of Quincy Street.

He answered the door after someone knocked and was shot once. Family said June was a good kid, and there was no reason for what happened to him.

The only suspect information the Kern County Sheriff's Department had was someone seen running from the apartment wearing a black hoodie sweatshirt.

Sheriff’s officials said Wednesday they have no more information regarding the shooting, or suspects.  Anyone with information is asked to call the Sheriff's Department at 391-7500.

Donations to the memorial fund can be made at any Bank of America branch under the June Hayden Memorial Fund.

"We just want to be able to bury our brother," said June's oldest sister Lakiesha Tyler, 31. "And if we have anything left, we want to be able to buy a nice headstone."

A funeral for June is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Monday at Saint Emmanuel Baptist Church, 308 Dr. Martin L King Jr. Blvd.
