Controlled burns ablaze in greater Tehachapi area

KERN COUNTY FIRE DEPARTMENT P RESS RELEASE

The Kern County Fire Department will be conducting a series of
controlled burns in the Greater Tehachapi Area.

The Kern County Fire Department in cooperation with the East Kern Air
Pollution Control District (APCD), Local Fire Safe Councils and with the
support of local     residents is proceeding with a series of controlled
burns in the areas of Golden Hills, Stallion Springs and Alpine Forest.
The plan is intended to reduce the threat of damage form wildfires in
the area.  The planning and preparation for these     projects has been
ongoing to ensure the safety and effectiveness of the operation.  The
project will consist of the burning of hazardous vegetation piles that
have been cut, stacked and dried for burning over previous months.

Fire department units will closely monitor each burn for safety.

The Kern County Fire Department works closely with the local Fire Safe
Council’s and community members in identifying hazardous fuels
treatment areas and project coordination.

We encourage and need the community’s support for these and other
projects.
