BAKERSFIELD FIRE DEPARTMENT PRESS& nbsp;RELEASE

Download the PDF release.

Thursday, Jan 29, 2009 at 2320 hrs. (11:20 p.m. PST) a reinforced 1st alarm from the Bakersfield FIRE
Department  consisting of 3 Engines, 2 Trucks, 1 Battalion Commanders,  responded to a report of
structure fire at an Central Bakersfield location. First arriving companies reported smoke emitting from a
two story four-plex apartment. BFD companies investigated and determined that a small fire had been
extinguished by the neighbors using buckets of water. The alarm was scaled down to two engines and a
Truck for mop up. Search of the apartment found heavy smoke involvement but little fire damage.
Unfortunately, two dogs were found to have been overcome by smoke and had expired.

The fire appears to have started from unattended cooking and was determined to be accidental.
