Two alarm fire at Buttonwillow business

BUTTONWILLOW, CA - Monday March 2nd 2009 at approximately 7:10 P.M., a call was received by the Kern County Fire Department for a commercial structure fire at Jamesco on Highway 58 in Buttonwillow.  Approximately 19 Kern County Firefighters responded to the incident.

Upon arrival, fire crews were faced with a 15,000 sq ft building fully involved in fire, flames could be seen from the fire station several miles away. A second alarm was requested and fire crews commenced a defensive attack on the fire until support arrived. Due to the remoteness of the location, fire crews used a water tender to shuttle water from the nearest hydrant, approximately 1 mile away. It is estimated that the fire destroyed approximately $100,000.00 in value to the structure, contents and surrounding out buildings.

There were no reported injuries, and the cause of the fire is under investigation at this time.

As of 9:30 P.M. crews were still on scene carrying out overhaul to ensure that the fire is fully extinguished.
