All I-5 lanes over Grapevine are now open
Just heard from Sgt. Robert Rodriguez of the CHP that all lanes over the Grapevine are now open. Here's what shut some of the lanes down: From a CHP news release: At approximately 6 p.m., the Kenworth was being driven northbound I-5 on the Grapevine downgrade when the driver overheated the brakes. The left rear wheels on the trailer caught fire. The driver stopped the truck on the right shoulder of northbound I-5 south of the escape ramps. The driver was unable to extinguish the fire. The fire grew and spread as it began to consume the left rear of the trailer and melt and approximately 350-gallon plastic container of Hydrogen Peroxide, Aqueous Solutions, "UN 2014." Both northbound and southbound I-5 lanes were immediately closed to protect the public. Kern County Fire responded and quickly extinguished the fire. The fire had partially melted the bottom of the container causing a small leak. Approximately 10 to 15 gallons of Hydrogen Peroxide had leaked from the container over a four hour period. Southbound I-5 was reopened at 2015 hours. The left two lanes of northbound I-5 were reopened at 2200 hours. The right two lanes of northbound I-5 will be closed for an unknown duration as the removal and clean up proceeds. 0 comments from 0 users
