Police bust 63 for seat belt violations

PRESS RELEASE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
BAKERSFIELD POLICE DEPARTMENT

March 31, 2009

On Tuesday, March 31, 2009 the Bakersfield Police Department Traffic Enforcement Detail conducted a “Click it or Ticket” enforcement event where four officers targeted motorists in violation seat belt and child safety seat laws.
As a result of this enforcement event, 63 motorists were cited for safety belt violations during a four hour period.
The Bakersfield Police Department Traffic Enforcement Detail will conduct these “Click or Ticket” enforcement events throughout this coming year.
Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.  The public is encouraged to help keep roadways safe by calling 911 if they see a suspected impaired driver.

"Police BUST 63 for seat belt violations."

Sounds as if citizens are being turned into criminals over seat belts.  Special task force.  Next thing you know they will be calling out the swat team and K9 units to catch the seat belt violaters. LOLOLOL.

weenie, it was TBC that used the word "BUST". Notice the news release used the correct term, "cited". But the headline riles the ignorant public, like you, and makes people read the paper. And where do you see this was a special task force? It was regular officers whose duty time was paid for by a state funded grant. You are one of those people who criticize the police no matter what they do. LOLOLOL.

Gee it is either ticket them or scrap them off the asphalt with a square nose shovel.

It's nice to know that the BPD has solved every other problem in Bakersfield and is now doing a major seatbelt crackdown.  I've never felt so safe in my whole life...

A guy just went off in the canyon, unrestrained and was killed.  He might have died even belted but he sure as heck did with no seatbelt on.

" He might have died even belted but he sure as heck did with no seatbelt on."

Why did'nt they have a safety belt checkpoint at each end of the canyon? That  would solve that problem of non-seatbelted drivers running through that canyon, right quick.

You guys must be feeling safer ...?

Chiweenie,

B-town special safety belt com[pliance patrols are not about public safety.

Though, they do have everything to do with some "awesome overtime."

vigil, you have more typos than normal in your last two comments. Been hitting the bong tonight?

And how do you know any overtime at all was paid during the seat belt enforcement push? Or are you spouting off without any proof, as usual?

Ward,

Can you tell me if B-town pd has any open positions? You know vacancies - are they fully staffed?

They bring in some part-timers from Taft?

vigil, if you follow the local news you would not have to ask such a stupid question.

So,  the special safety seat belt patrol ( four officers paid to drive around looking for seat belt violators) involved some awesome overtime, or did it not.?

You crack yourself another beer now, if you want.
