BAKERSFIELD POLICE DEPARTMENT
NEWS RELEASE

April 8, 2009

EVADING, PAROLE VIOLATION, HIT &RUN ARREST

At 1334 hours, Bakersfield Police Officers were dispatched to the 6500 block of Summer Breeze for a suspicious black Cadillac parked in the area and subjects loitering in the neighborhood. As officers arrived, a white Chevy Blazer drove out of the neighborhood at a high rate of speed. Officers attempted to stop the Blazer and it failed to stop. The Blazer driver led officers on a lengthy pursuit as far south as 99 and Taft Hwy., then back to Panama Ln. and Wible Rd.

The Blazer collided with an unoccupied, parked vehicle at Fortune and Panama Ln. Three suspects were taken into custody after they had fled on foot into the surrounding neighborhood. The driver:

Jose A. DeLaMora, Male adult 29 years of Filmore, CA: was arrested for evading arrest [Felony], parolee at large, felon in possession of ammunition, hit & run and delaying/obstructing officers;
Steven Martinez, Male adult 24 years of Fillmore, CA: was arrested for: Parolee at large and delaying/obstructing officers; and
Aaron Morua, Male adult 21 years of Santa Paula, CA: was arrested for: delaying/obstructing officers.

A fourth suspect was not located. The original suspicious black Cadillac turned out to be a stolen vehicle from earlier this date. Officers were unable to locate witnesses who were able to connect these suspects with the GTA. No injuries resulted from the accident. The suspects were booked into the Kern County Jail.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call the Bakersfield Police Department at 327-7111.

Here's a good rule of thumb:  most Cadillacs driven by "other than old white folks" are either old or stolen.

How can a car look suspicious anyway?  I once had a CHP pull me over in my Mercedes convertible because it "looked suspicious".  How can a convertible with a top down "look suspicious"?!  I was irked, not only at his accusation but because my medical marijuana plants were being wind whipped all the way back from Humboldt.
