Firefighters rescue man injured on windmill

Kern County Fire Department

Press release

TEHACHAPI - CA.  On Tuesday April 14th 2009 at approximately 8:18 A.M., the Kern County Fire Department received a call for an injured person at AES Generation in the 13000 block of Chantico Rd, east of Tehachapi.

The injured worker was located on a work platform approximately 100 ft high on an electricity generating windmill. The worker had received moderate injures to the leg and arm, a company EMT was on scene.

A fire crew contacted the patient, secured the injuries and placed in a backboard. With the use of a mechanical lift the patient was brought to ground level and subsequently transferred to a local area hospital by a ground ambulance. This rescue was made more difficult and dangerous to rescuers due to the strong winds.

There were no injuries to firefighters.
