Firefighters douse fire at vacant east Bakersfield duplex

Kern County Fire Department

Press release

EAST BAKERSFIELD, CA - June 28th 2009 at approximately 5:02 P.M., a call was received by the Kern County Fire Department for a structure fire in the 400 block of South Haley Street.  Approximately 12 Kern County Firefighters responded to the incident, assisted by Bakersfield City Fire Department.

Upon arrival, crews were faced with a developing fire in a room of one of the vacant units. The fire was contained to the room of origin and extinguished very quickly. Fire crews made an initial attack to extinguish the fire and prevent further spread into the attic space and the second unit.

Firefighters were able to save approximately $150,000.00 in property value. However, the fire destroyed an estimated $50,000.00 of property.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
There were no reported injuries.
