BAKERSFIELD POLICE
DEPARTMENT
PRESS RELEASE

For Immediate Release

Friday July 10, 2009

In May of this year detectives of the Bakersfield Police Department Narcotics unit in conjunction
with the local office of the DEA opened an investigation (OCDETF) into the distribution of
methamphetamine and cocaine by a group of individuals in the Bakersfield area. The
investigation revealed that this group was using modified Nissan Frontier pickup trucks to conceal and transport large quantities of these drugs.

In June, the first of a series of search warrants were served in Bakersfield.

At one location, 800 Normandy Drive, investigators arrested:

Cesar Eduaro Lopez, 25
Santana Vega-Felix, 61
Roberto Reyes Lopez, 30.

Investigators seized 14.12 pounds of methamphetamine (street value of $638,400), 2 1⁄2 ounces
of cocaine (street value of $7000), two vehicles, a 9mm handgun and $12,842.00 in cash.

A search warrant was also served at 19917 Avenue 196 in Strathmore, CA. where investigators
seized $13,181.00 in cash proceeds from narcotics transactions and arrested:

Maiano Lopez-Bedola, 40

On July 9, 2009 the joint investigation concluded with the service of search warrants at:

10609 Gold Cup Lane in Bakersfield
1717 Chastain Way in Bakersfield
7508 Letty Avenue in Lamont
8730 Far Hills Ave in Lamont.

Located during the service of those search warrants was:

1.6 pounds of Methamphetamine (street value $72,500) and 1.75 pounds of cocaine (street value
$79,400), along with two semi-automatic handguns and three rifles.

Doing jobs Americans won't?

Is it just me, or does it seem like the amounts of drugs being seized are alot larger in a single sweep than whats been in past few years? Quite a bit of dope in such a close amount of time...

I wonder if that means that LE, DEA and all the other agents trying to clean up drugs in America are beginning to get a handle on it...hmmmm, sure alot of dope in a little bit of time for this small patch of California....

Nope.  Not even close.  This "patch" is quite large.  The Eastern District covers Kern County all the way up to the Oregon border which includes Yosemite, Sequoia, and Redwood forests.  A lot of dope is grown in those areas.

"A lot of dope is grown in those areas."

You see , Francais has this snow globe and he knows where all the dope is being processed ... I bet those guys watched a lot of people snorting cocaine.

I have no idea where it's being processed.  I know where some of the marijuana is being grown and I don't see how it can be stopped.

You might have an insight on the processing side.  You're the subject matter expert on the dope game, Virgil.

No, Francais ! I thought you were .

Does this mean it's not true about the snow globe ?

No Virgil, I'm no SME on dope.  I did have a snow globe but it came up missing after you came by my house to get me to sign the "Make Marijuana Legal" petitions.

What's that white stuff on your nose?

Seen any scantilly clads backs with tatoos lately?

I know that you are a YouTube junkie.  Here's your fix-

No, dude, it would not have been me who five fingered your globe ... it had to have been someone else.

Excellent utube ... so, you agree it's a waste of resources to criminalize the use of marijuana.

And now you know that it's not dope they're growing in them hills. It's marijuana. That's all it is.

Yes, Virgil. I do.  You've been fighting with me for over a year and have yet to figure that out?

I just don't have the vested interest that you do.

Dope is all drugs.  I'm no SME, remember.  You are.

I just don't see the point in fighting a battle against something that grows naturally and becomes more of a problems when it becomes even more profitable when they glorify these busts.  I also think the current international drug policies only perpetuate the problem.

Take back what?  Nothing has been taken.

No interests, Francais, other than an interest for what is right, and what should be.

You're wrong and it belies your vested interest ( perhaps, in this case, only to be right in your own mind ).

eighty-five percent of all those arrested for drug violations are arrested for marijuana related offenses.

Imagine what our drug war  wil look like once marijuana is decriminalized - the billions saved every year, among many other advantages.

You're preaching to the choir but thanks for the sermon.

I believe we disagree on the focus of foreign policy in Latin America.  You think that Amerca's focus is on stopping drugs (The War on Drugs) whereas I think the focus is on keeping goods and labor cheap (Fruit and Oil in particular).  I think the failed drug policy is just an add on to the status quo from the Reagan Years.

I found this in the urban dictionary.  Please excuse my ebonics.  My meaning of dope may be a little different from yours.

What does dope mean to you, Virgil?

posted by VirgilAnderson on Jul 11, 2009 at 11:08 AM

 Francais,

Interesting. Marijuana  was not refered to as dope before it's criminalization by the U.S. govt. in 1937.

What do yoou think ?

I don't think we ever talked about U.S. Foreign policy in Latin America, only drug war policy.

Good point about the residual effects of Reagan's foreign policy ...

Yes, we did.  The blog topic was not even about drugs (if I have the time I'll find the old post).  That's what started our little debates over drugs. I didn't know the etymology behind the word "dope".  That interesting, nonetheless.  It's just what I heard all drugs refered to when I was growing up.
