Suspects being chased by police crash into car

BAKERSFIELD POLICE
DEPARTMENT
PRESS RELEASE

For Immediate Release

August 17, 2009

On 8/17/09, at about 9:29 a.m., Bakersfield Police Officers, Allen Ronk and
Timothy Berchtold observed two men driving in a white Ford van, registered out
of Pasadena, in northwest Bakersfield. After observing suspicious driving
maneuvers, which suggested the occupants were trying to avoid contact by law
enforcement, the officers attempted to affect a traffic stop on the van for expired
registration.  The driver of the van, Ronald Clark Franklin (34), led the officers
on a short pursuit west bound on Columbus Street from Auburn Street.  When
Franklin reached the intersection of Columbus and Haley Streets, he ran the red
light and collided with another motorist, Javier Uribe (27),  who was south on
Haley Street driving a silver 2002 Infinity.

Franklin ran from the collision and was apprehended a short distance away.  He
was arrested for evading, hit and run, resisting arrest and expired registration.
His passenger was identified and released. All three suffered minor injuries.

I saw the footage on the noon news of the aftermath of the crash. I hope Javier Uribe had good insurance, because his Infinity looked totalled.

Let's make a law: No more car chases.

Do you have any idea what would happen to crime rates in this town if every criminal thought all they have to do is run from the cops because the cops cant chase them??  If you let the criminals think they can run, then they will run all the time.  NOT chasing criminals is not the answer.  Holding criminals accountable for their actions is what needs to happen.  There are dozens and dozens of car chases that never make the news.  It's the RARE one's that go bad you hear about.  You cannot let the criminals rule the world.  It's time to take our streets back.  NOT chasing criminals is not the way.

I hope  Franklin needed a trip to the hospital before he was booked. You know the old saying, "if the police have to chase you, they're bringing a butt kicking with them."

What makes this sub human pieces of animal waste think they can run from the police. Have they never seen cops? Our BPD really don't mess a round. Besides maybe if they spent as much time thinking how to screw over people they would have a real JOB.

I've got a better law:  If you run, I will shoot!
