Some people just figure there is an easier way out there to make money and will do whatever it takes, even if it involves "smile_massage_smile" with their daughters, I guess.

Of course, the daughter is mentioned, so she is obviously an adult and not a child, therefore, I am pretty sure this is a mutual decision to take advantage of some poor schmucks who have no idea they could probably get a better rate on Union Avenue.

Not lately, but we drove down Union to get home from the fair and from what I saw, I can't see that merchandise going for $250 a pop. =-)

Of course, it wasn't a mother-daughter deal, so that does raise some challenges in deciding which is cheaper.  I am not up on the supply/demand of mother-daughter deals.  I'm sure Virgil knows.

Task forces, like this one, can work in various jurisdictions.  For example, the Cal-Mmet Unit includes representatives of various local agencies, therefore they are not required to remain in one specific area, such as the City, Shafter PD's boundaries, etc.  Cal-Mmet could conduct investigations in the city, the county or outlying areas. 

Since this Task Force is a joint operation by BPD and the KSCO, they can also operate in areas that fall under the jurisdication of the Sheriff's Department, not just BPD.

The woman was 50, the daughter was 30.  The obviously had access to a computer that allowed them to set up this type of "operation."  I highly doubt the 30-year old daughter was being co-errced into the act.  You are right, there most people would not chose this situation, but the remaining look at it as an easy way to make money.  If it wasn't, it wouldn't still be around after hundreds of years.

I mean that you always have a criticism for law enforcement in most actions reported here, I was waiting for the usual, "This is what we spend our money on," or "_______ (Insert crime being arrested for, in this case, prostitution) doesn't hurt anybody," the usual arguments you use when discussing cops. 

virgil, I did NOT insinuate you knew these people.  And yes it was mean spirited to insinuate you might know how long a trick lasts and for that I apologize.  I was out of line.

Re: regression on the evolutionary chain was in reference to the mother daughter tag team twofer.  Generally in the "other" part of the animal world mothers and daughters and sons and fathers don't realize their related..or care since they are only interested in procreating.  In "our" world, it seems a bit unnatural for a mother and daughter to share a .....ummm...customer?

Wndr also has a point in that considering they had a computer AND access to the internet AND had a phone, they weren't very destitute.

There's no doubt these women have a very low opinion of themselves to become prostitutes but poverty isn't always the reason women turn to that lifestyle.  There have been some pretty famous and wealthy call girls and madams if you recall the news just some years back.  Some even involved politicians and church leaders.

Excellent point.  Of course, arrests equal continued funding for the group, so that thought probably comes before a lot of others. =-)

I don't think it's the prostitution that really makes this story, but the fact that it was a mother/daughter two-fer.  Most people see prostition arrest and skip over it, but when you see "Mother/daughter" in the headline, it causes one to take a second look.

Not necessarily all virgil.  Models and wanna be stars give in to the profession as well. 

People who don't have a Christian belief or faith wouldn't see it as immoral.  Christians do since it speaks to adultry.

Even if I wasn't a Christian, if I found out my hubby was a patron he's be out on the street with his clothes.  And not packed for him either.  Then he'd have all the time in the world to visit the "Ladies of the night."

I've seen previews for that show on HBO, those girls aren't doing it for any reason other than they like the money and the attention.  If you are living the good life doing prostitution, the argument that you are only doing it to make ends meet loses some of it's merit.

I know when I see "prostitution ring busted!" stories, I will check them out for humor value (just like you would read a story about a celeb and a prostitute).  I don't pay too much attention until I see the "They were WHAT?"  <Shudder>

 Christianity is fundamentally an experiential religion,  a pluralistic religion,  which offers guidance to individuals .

I can't use my distinct experience of what is good to condemn something else for somebody else. Prostitution is a reality. As I understand it, the core of christian spirituality, Nancy, is to teach by example not condemnation.

Silvers has more than one name, and a criminal record attached to it.  Charges were dropped in that case as she testified against her husband at that time.
