Officer shoots at man in Oildale, no one injured

This is a news release of the Kern County Sheriff's Office.
Please do not contact the Sheriff's Communications Center.

 Details:

At approximately 0100 hours Saturday morning, deputies from the Kern County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to 710 Westaria St. in Oildale for a report of a fight. Deputies arrived and found the victim of an assault. The suspect in the assault had fled, prior to the deputies’ arrival.

As deputies were investigating the assault, they received information that the suspect in the assault, later identified as 28 year old LUKE GOODMAN, was possibly en route to the victim’s residence at 603 Belle Av. in Oildale. Deputy Darren Norris, a four year veteran with the Sheriff’s Office, responded to that location.

As he was speaking with the occupants of the residence, he was in the front yard when the occupants saw GOODMAN’S vehicle approaching. They alerted Deputy Norris who attempted to make contact with GOODMAN. Deputy Norris saw the single occupant of the vehicle, identified as LUKE GOODMAN, point a shotgun out the window, towards him. Deputy Norris fired one round from his duty handgun at GOODMAN, striking GOODMAN’S vehicle.

GOODMAN fled the area in the vehicle. Other deputies arrived in the area and stopped GOODMAN a short distance away. He was taken into custody without incident. GOODMAN was not injured and he was found to be in possession of a loaded 12-gauge shotgun. He was also found to be in possession of a .22 cal rifle, as well as boxes of rounds of .22 cal. ammunition and 12 gauge ammunition.

Detectives responded to the scene to investigate the incident. During the course of their investigation they charged GOODMAN with felony battery (PC 243d), brandishing a firearm at a peace officer (PC 417c), and possession of a loaded firearm in a vehicle (PC 12031a1). He was booked into the Kern County Jail.

Deputy Norris has been placed on administrative leave pending a review of the shooting.

Well, at least he was smart enough not to try to engage in another shooting.

I hope that the "legal System" has learned a lesson from the very sad one earlier this summer where the mother and daughter where killed, Keep the SOB IN JAIL.

Not only did the perp assault someone, but it appears that he was headed back to the scene of the crime with not just one but two firearms... hummm I wonder why .......oh I know he was a good boy and he was taking them over there so they could help him Clean them.....yeah wright.
