This news release is prepared under the direction of the Sheriff-Coroner-Public Administrator for the convenience of news reporters.  Facts concerning news events of major importance, which occur after the preparation of this release, will be made available to reporters at their request as soon as it is possible to do.

DECEDENT'S NAME:  Linda Marie Rose       &nb sp;  CASE #: C02051-09
CITY OF RESIDENCE: Ridgecrest      &nb sp;   AGE: 30 yrs.
TYPE OF CASE: Accidental Fall
DATE OF INCIDENT: 11/01/2009      &nb sp;   TIME: About 1400 hrs.
LOCATION: Approximately 1 mile South of SR-14 & Brady Street, Ridgecrest, CA
DATE OF DEATH: 11/01/2009      &nb sp;  TIME: 1550 hrs.
PLACE OF DEATH: Pronounced dead at the scene
INVESTIGATING AGENCY: Kern County Sheriff's Office

Details: This decedent fell approximately 100 feet into a mine shaft while exploring an abandoned mine.

Details: On 11/1/2009 at 1418 hours, deputies from the Ridgecrest Substation were dispatched to assist Kern County Fire on a report from witnesses of a 30 year old female that had fallen into a mine shaft at the Tungstun Peak Mine located one mile south of the intersection of Hwy 14 and Hwy 395. The victim was later identified as Linda Rose  from the Ridgecrest area.

I heard this on the scanner yesterday afternoon.  I can tell you from the radio traffic, that the fire, law enforcement, rescue and everybody involved were working frantically to faciltate this rescue. 

My heart goes out to the family and all the people involved in the rescue.
