Car thefts in OIldale, northeast up by 35 percent

PRESS RELEASE ON VEHICLE THEFTS

This is a news release of the Kern County Sheriff's Office.
Please do not contact the Sheriff's Communications Center.

Date:  Monday, November 02, 2009
Time:  2:21:45 PM
Department Contact: Detective Elliott, Auto Theft,
Phone:  391-7604

Details:

The Sheriff’s Office noted a significant increase in the number of vehicle thefts in the past three weeks.  Overall the Metropolitan Bakersfield area averaged about 100 vehicle thefts a month.  In October 2009 this jumped to 135 for the month, a roughly 35 percent increase.  By and large the vehicles are mostly stolen in Oildale and the eastern Bakersfield area.

By far Hondas and similar Asian made vehicles are the largest proportion of these thefts, accounting for an average of over 30 percent of the stolen cars over the past five months and increased to over 40 percent of the stolen vehicles in October. There are probably many reasons for this but the Sheriff’s Office believes the largest reason is that the Asian imports are simply easier to steal than many other vehicles.

The Sheriffs Office strongly encourages owners of all vehicles, but especially Hondas and similar vehicles to take preventative steps to help discourage a thief from selecting your car for theft.  If a thief really wants you specific car there are very few things that can be done to prevent the theft.  However, most thefts in this area are done on the basis of opportunity.  A thief wants to get out of the area quickly, so the more you can do to slow down the theft, the more likely it is the thief will look for an easier target.

Deterrence and Delay are the keys.  First install a alarm and with a siren, not a honking horn.  If your alarm goes off, don’t ignore it.  At the very least use a steering wheel locking device which is plainly visible.  Install an ignition cut-off switch or fuel cut-off switch so the car can not be started or won’t go very far if they try to steal it.

If you purchase aftermarket items like GPS, stereos, amplifiers and rims make sure you engrave the items with your driver’s license number, preferably in a visible location.  Marking items is a deterrent and if the items are stolen the markings will make it simpler to identify the thief(s) and get your property back.  Custom rims are the most frequent target in vehicle thefts and you must etch identifying information onto the rim.  Do not leave anything inside the car.  Many vehicles are being stolen to get the wallets, purses, briefcases, identification and other items being left in the car.

Finally, colder weather is quickly approaching.  Traditionally during the winter months auto thefts increase because of people begin warming up the vehicles in the driveway or garage.  Never leave the vehicle once it is started, not even for the ten seconds you think it will take for you to go inside and get a cup of coffee.  That is all the time the thief needs.

Oildale is running their own Cash for Clunkers program.

Meth  Crack for Clunkers (it's a spinoff)?

When I lived in Fresno a few years ago, I had my Honda broken into twice (once in broad daylight by the federal courthouse).  Apparently it was real easy to steal my radio.

I paid my cash and got my clunker.

And yes, it was technically the '08 zip code...

...that's your story and you're sticking to it?

posted by AudreyB on Nov 2, 2009 at 03:31 PM

I hear there are some good shade tree mechanics in Oildale.  Where's there a need........

Parts are parts... anyone need their Honda repaired ..have lots of parts in stock........

posted by jfrancais on Nov 2, 2009 at 04:09 PM

Honda parts are expensive when you buy them at retail prices.

It pays to have a local crackhead that will sell them at "rock" bottom prices.

Why does the KCSO news release say car thefts are happening in Oildale and the eastern Bakersfield area, but the headline for this blog says Oildale and the "northeast"? Someone writing the headlines at TBC doesn't know the cities geography very well! But that is typical.

And jfrancais, it should be "crank for clunkers", not "crack for clunkers".

a few years ago, my wife and her friends went to a wedding in a friends car.  i got a call about 4 hours later.  during the ceremony..in a GATED parking lot...they attempted to steal her friends tahoe...screwed up the ignition, so they stole the stereo.

i had to drive up there to get them

its unbelieveable, the crime in F____ NO

Hell, I got jacked my first night moving there.  It was in a GATED community, as well (with video cameras).

White, plain wheels, mid size sedan, kids car seat in the back, briefcase full of alcohol and drug information, stack of NA&AA books as well as inspirational books, front seat full of fast food coupons and kleenex, 3 dried french fries and a crust of a burger...who'd be interested in MY car?    ;-)

Why  Ya all hatin' on Oildale? I've been over to ROSEdale and it seems to me that the same type of people you think live in Oildale have found their way over to your snotty part of town, ROSEdale. I mean have you been to the Target and Wal-mart on ROSEdale? WOW!! It's amazing to me that people put down Oildale when they've got more "Daliens" in their part of the great Northwest. It's just another "Dale". Pull your noses out of the air... your not as good as you think you are. Pretty sure there are car thefts throughout the city, crackheads.

dbirdie

You're right!  Rosedalians are upwardly mobile Oildalians.

Sincerely,

Audrey, Former Oildalian

DBIRDIE - I believe the article stated "Oildale and the northEAST".....but you were obviously too busy showing your '08 intelligence to pay attention to that!!  Rosedale is northWEST!!!!  You seem to have a real 'hate-on' for the residents of  Rosedale.  Could this be because most of them are educated and/or employed?

posted by dbirdie on Nov 3, 2009 at 08:38 AM

redwoof, I know what the headline stated idiot. Like i said I can guarantee those loud, crude and unintelligent people shopping out in rosedale are not all from Oildale, most are from your part of town.... and i don't have a "hate-on" for the residents of rosedale just the ones that think they are better than everybody else, which is most of them... and most of the residents of Oildale are educated and employed also.... An education doesn't mean that your  a better person either.  Your just showing your '12 intelligence. Woof  Woof

" the Target and Wal-mart on ROSEdale? WOW!!"    need we say more??

You see the same type of people there because they ARE the same people, goes to show they know how to drive.

Why are they targetting Asian cars?  That's just plain racist  ;-)  Call the ACLU

Why are they targetting Asian cars?

The answer to nearly every question beginning with "why" is "money."

posted by BakoBeachBumm on Nov 3, 2009 at 11:00 AM

so has the stereo type gone from the Jewish to the Asians?

Roysan, your too funny. ;-)

They say sometimes the best response is no response........dbirdie still can't spell my name right and assumes that I live in Rosedale....you're proving my point the more 'pissy' and hardcore 'Dalien you try to be......

posted by dbirdie on Nov 3, 2009 at 02:54 PM

your right redwool you shouldn't have responded....don't really care where you live....and your assuming I live in Oildale....I don't think you can be "pissy" and hardcore at the same time....Uhh..,,maybe you can...

posted by AudreyB on Nov 3, 2009 at 02:56 PM

Why are they targetting Asian cars

They want a car that will run long enough to make a getaway.

posted by jasd1977 on Nov 3, 2009 at 03:47 PM

It doesn't matter if you are living in Oildale, Rosedale, the northeast, or another community in this city; it's still a dump!

posted by jfrancais on Nov 3, 2009 at 03:51 PM

If they stole American cars would that be a white on white on white crime?

posted by CheckMate on Nov 3, 2009 at 04:01 PM

The majority of cars stolen in Oildale are by hispans from Delano and McFarland. And majority stolen in east Bako are by east side hispans. Since most of them average about 5'-5" in height, they are forced to steal the small Japanese cars, (Honda, Acura, Mitsubishi), so their feet can reach the pedals. They aren't tall enough to steal full size American made cars and trucks.

Spam code- ASSLX (you figure it out)

A majority of hispanics are white (with a mixture of native American and/or African).
