Man dies in head on collision on Highway 65

A 55-year-old Porterville man turned into the lane of an oncoming truck and was killed by the head-on impact, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The victim, whose name has not been released, was driving a 2000 Chrysler Town and Country Van north on Highway 65 near Merced Avenue at 11:05 p.m. Tuesday when the crash happened.

The impact caused the big rig to overturn, officers said. The highway was closed for five hours.

The truck driver was Valcyro Yamashita, 37, of Parowan, Utah. He was not injured.
