Apparently the Austrian man who imprisoned his daughter for 24 years, raped her repeatedly and fathered seven children with her could face just 15 years in prison thanks to Europe's more relaxed attitude towards crime and punishment.
Now the Austrian guy is in his 70s, so that's probably a life sentence. But still, 15 years?! That's less than the twisted prison sentence he handed down to his daughter and some of those kids.
I know folks complain a bit about our justice system, but right now...

Officer 1st Class Morton. I'm hoping that it will also help to clarify
some discrepancies that have appeared in news reports...

Illinois and graduated high school there, she later claimed her "home

I spent part of a day last week driving around with officers from the vice unit as they busted prostitutes working along Union Avenue and V Street.
Four prostitutes were arrested in about an hour, and several others were seen working the streets.
"Pretty Woman" it's not. Most of these girls are drug addicts and some are homeless or spend their time going from one dingy motel to the next night after night. One of the prostitutes said she started using drugs at 12 and began...

Last week I talked with a retired California Highway Patrol officer who has been conducting his own investigation into a murder that happened 41 years ago. He's long been interested in the case and just can't get it out of his head.
The victim, Dominga Montoya, a secretary to then-Assemblyman Kent Stacey, was bludgeoned to death in a laundromat on Niles Street. Apparently the killing received quite a bit of publicity at the time and there was even an arrest, but no charges were filed and it...

George Orozco Jr. didn't want to be talk about his brother in front of a camera.
In Saturday's story about 1st Lt. Osbaldo Orozco death in Iraq five years ago and how his family has gone through since then, George opened his heart.
I didn't expect him to say much, but one story about "Baldo" finding a floating dead horse in a reservoir turned into another story about Osbaldo's fascination with the movie, "The Program." A planned 15 minute interview turned into an hour.

Steven Mayer has a piece on the District Attorney's office cracking down on kids who skip school repeatedly. They got the juvenile court judge to let the media in today and watch three girls get sentenced to a weekend in stir for skipping school.
So what do you think? Should we lock up kids that just don't bother going to school?
To be clear, these aren't kids who have missed one day. They're repeat offenders who have already been to court previously -- and they still skipped school.
I...

When I first started reading this story by Jorge Barrientos I got a chill. I don't know how many times I've started the dryer and left the house. This woman came back to find a fire, started by the dryer, had burned down her house.
Of course I eventually got to the part where she didn't have a pipe running from the dryer to the outside of the house, it was just blowing lint around in her laundry room.

Bakersfield police are stepping up enforcement efforts against motorcyclists and looking for anyone driving recklessly or otherwise committing traffic violations that could lead to a crash. Five people have died in crashes involving motorcycles since September 2007.
Should police be going after motorcyclists and are they inherently more reckless drivers than others on the road?
One of those killed was 25-year-old motorcyclist Jared Brown after the driver of a van struck him and left the...

William Logan knows how to act as a prisoner, but not so much as a boyfriend.
At a Tehachapi ranch in September, a man came up to Logan's car and smacked Logan on the side of the face with a handgun as Logan was in the driver's seat.
The gun accidentally went off and the bullet killed Logan's girlfriend, 36-year-old Michelle Cross.
This came out in the murder trial of David Bruce Rosenberg, a friend and crime partner of Logan's.
But Logan, wearing orange prison clothes because he's...
