Officer Dennis Eddy, who lost part of his leg in a shoot out with a gang member more than five months ago, has returned to work part time at the Bakersfield Police Department.

At a press conference today, Sheriff's Department officials clarified the case against Detentions Deputy Fredrico Tafoya.
Tafoya was arrested on suspicion of charges including attempted oral copulation under color of authority after soliciting an inmate, detectives said.
Tafoya was demanding that the inmate let Tafoya perform oral sex on the inmate, not the other way around, officials said.
Tafoya faces a maximum of four years in prison under the charges.

The Piute fire saw virtually no growth overnight.
The fire’s acreage remained at 33,152 acres and it was 28 percent contained, firefighters said Wednesday morning. Six residences and 10 outbuildings have been destroyed by the blaze, which began June 28.
An estimated $13.1 million has been spent fighting the fire.
Air quality officials have issued a health caution because of smoke caused by wildfires. The caution will be in effect until the fires are extinguished.
“Due to the erratic nature of the smoke, areas of the eight-county air basin could potentially be affected at any given time,” said Shawn Ferreria, senior air quality specialist for San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District, in a statement.
