Most surprisingly to me, they're concentrated in the northeast and southwest. The northwest and southeast seem relatively untouched.

A person was pinned in the big rig but there was no injury information, according to the California Highway Patrol. The big rig was carrying 80,000 pounds of lettuce.

Domestic Violence Warrant Operation
On 10/22/08 the Bakersfield Police Department conducted a warrant operation
for individuals who had outstanding arrest warrants for domestic violence. We
attempted service of 180 warrants and made 23 arrests. We were able to clear a
total of 36 warrants.

A man stripped down to his boxers and led deputies on a chase more reminiscent of a Hollywood action scene than an actual pursuit as reports came in of him hiding in a chicken coop, getting into a car and changing clothes, all within a span of about 10 minutes.
The chase happened about 2:15 p.m. in McFarland. The suspect, whose name was not yet known, took off his shoes and pants and was wearing red boxer shorts as he ran from deputies, according to reports.

The body of Cydney Froom was found in a home in the 20200 block of Neuralia Road, according to the California City Police Department.
Police and firefighters battled the blaze at about 11 p.m., police said. The fire was contained to a bedroom where Froom was found.

A local firefighter died Sunday from a rare liver disease.
Cal Fire Capt. Christopher Ennis of Bakersfield worked out of the Owens Valley Camp and was a firefighter for 17 years. He was 43.
During the summer, Ennis left work when he got sick after battling the Telegraph Fire in northern California, according to Cal Fire Capt. Mike Ramirez.

A judge has rejected a request for a new trial for a Shafter chemistry teacher convicted of manufacturing methamphetamine, the prosecutor said Friday.
That means Jeff Scheidemantel will be sentenced on Oct. 16, although his attorney, Stan Simrin, plans to file a request to keep Scheidemantel free on bail pending appeal.
