A 10-year-old Bakersfield boy was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of committing a sexual offense against another child.
Police wouldn’t give specifics about the case, but said the child was arrested on suspicion of committing lewd or lascivious acts with a child under 14 years old. It’s a felony offense.

The pit bull choked by a 9-year-old two weeks ago after it attacked a 12-year-old girl and her dog was rescued from an animal shelter Monday.

A March 2 trial date has been set for Daniel Patrick Willsey, who is accused of causing the crash that killed Kern County sheriff’s Deputy Joe Hudnall in November 2006.
The latest delay in the case is due to defense attorneys needing time to watch and review findings of a Caltrans re-enanctment of the collision.
Willsey, a Southland attorney, has pleaded innocent to charges of vehicular manslaughter and being under the influence of drugs at the time of the crash.
Three alleged gang members were sentenced to prison Monday after taking plea deals in a case that could have once sent them to prison for the rest of their lives.
Bryson Mitchell and Dorsell Smith were each sentenced to six years in prison and John Cherry was sentenced to four years in prison. Both pled to voluntary manslaughter.

A Bakersfield man was shot in the chest Friday night after two men, one armed with a semi-automatic handgun, knocked on his apartment door, police said.
Jose Mercado, 24, was in critical condition after the shooting shortly before 8 p.m., police said, and was taken to Kern Medical Center. Staff there refused to comment on his condition.
