KBAK is reporting that there is a wave of identity thefts in the Tehachapi area, saying there have beenabout 200 cases.
Police in the area are trying to figure out where the thieves got their information and suspect there may be some local involvement.

Bakersfield police acting on a tip found 152 immature marijuana plants in a bedroom that had been converted to a grow plants near Bakersfield College.
Police also found 31 mature marijuana plants in the backyard of the home in the 3200 block of Blade Avenue.
Police seized $3,800 in case from the home. No one was at home when police served a search warrant at 3:45 p.m. Thursday.

Investigation revealed Sandra Aparicio, 39, a Shafter resident, had been stabbed by Jose Rosario Aguilar Lopez, age 54, a Bakersfield resident.
Aparicio later succumbed to her wounds at Kern Medical Center.
Lopez fled the scene on foot, but was apprehended near the scene. The suspect was booked into the Kern County Jail for murder....

KERO is reporting that the family of a woman who apparently laid down in the road and was then run over say she was not trying to commit suicide.

A woman was found drowned Tuesday at 8:38 p.m. at the bottom of a pool at the Motel 6, 1350 Easton Drive, Bakersfield police reported.

The intersection of White Lane and Ashe Road was closed for several hours Monday thanks to a gas leak, say PG&E and city fire officials. A nearby apartment building was also evacuated because of the leak. Cindy Pollard with PG&E sais a construction crew putting in some turn lanes for the city struck a gas main around 9:15 a.m. The damage was at a point where two mains met. An apartment fire burned part of a small apartment complex in east Bakersfield this morning. Firefighters got the call to the 1900 block of Quincy around 7:30 a.m. and had the fire knocked out in about ten minutes.
The fire had started on the second floor of a duplex unit and was contained there. The fire did about $30,000 in damage. Another $150,000 in property was saved from burning.
Firefighters weren't able to pin down the specific cause of the fire, but were sure it was not a normal...

Rosamond, CA: At 6:11 PM, on May 2, 2009, Kern County Fire Department crews responded to, and controlled an 1800 square foot dwelling fire, at 3408 Bradham Avenue, in Rosamond. Crews were assisted by Engine 130, from Los Angeles County Fire Department. Four engine companies, staffed by 13 persons, confined fire to area of origin; protected residents from the fire; and conserved property through efficient salvage operations. A funeral will be held Monday at 10 a.m. for 62-year-old Iva Lee Craig who was shot to death Monday night in front of her home on Horne Street.
And anyone who would like to donate to help defray the funeral expenses for her family may do so under the victim's name at any Kern Schools Federal Credit Union branch, a credit union spokeswoman said.

KGET has a story about a magnitude 3.5 earthquake on the west side this morning. The temblor -- yes I used the word temblor -- happened around 8:40 a.m. and was centered about 10 miles southeast of Taft.
This is the third quake this week over magnitude 2 in the area.
On Wednesday we had a magnitude 2.8 located about 5 miles from Keene, around 9:30 p.m.

Stolen Vehicle and Police Pursuit Arrest
On 4/30/09, at approximately 7:23 p.m., in the 2000 block of Vincent Avenue,
Bakersfield Police auto theft detectives along with officers of the California
Highway Patrol attempted to contact a suspect occupying a stolen vehicle.
