Karaoke in Bakersfield?
i have only been back in bakersfield for a little over and month and when i lived in las vegas almost every bar i went to had karaoke at least 1-2 times a week. I love karaoke, i love being on stage, i love singing and i am good at it. But i find myself in a predicament here as i have only found about 4 places that have karaoke and 3 of them are places i don't care to go.... The silver fox downtown is a cool spot but they only host it on fridays... so i am just curious if there are any other karaokers out there on the blog spot and where they go when they need a good lung excersizing. i guess i could go through the phonebook and call every bar here in town but that would take forever.... so where are the good spots? how often do they host it? do they also have dancing? live bands? cheap drinks? what's up with the night life here? i don't get out much these days because i have a 2 month old but when i do get to go out, i would like to enjoy a cheap pitcher of beer, in a cool atmosphere, with karaoke.... i just <3 my karaoke.... my release.... my time to shine! lol.

Warning about the Pourhouse, Muggs, and the Esquire. All 3 of these bars allow heavy smoking inside, even though the law prohibits it. If you don't believe me, go see for yourself.

I kust read that one of the Pizza places that used to be Mountain Mikes has Karaoke too and they usually have cheaper beer. I think it was on Stine but don't quote me. It was in the paper. Or was it the on line dining review? Hmmm...back with details later. Murphy...I worked at BW for over 6 years...3 1/2 of those years were in the bar with Karaoke. I was hardly the Karaoke lady though..you won't catch ME on stage....LOL. posted by

See profile. :-) I have just decided to do very little blogging, and when I do, to stick to light stuff. I decided to move into my right brain for a bit. Badly needed change. I'm also a BBQ master :-) and when the weather becomes a bit more amenable, this is my moniker for the BBQ blog.

Murphy I WASN'T me. I have a terrible voice and can hardly stand to hear myself on my answering machine. I've tried for 55 years to get the midwest twang out of my voice and haven't succeeded yet. posted by

Hey. Good news! We just started a local Karaoke newsletter (and yes, your Silver Fox is in it) that lists 30+ locations to sing Monday through Sunday. The newsletter is available online, at www.KaraokeinBakersfield.com , with updated places as we get them. We're also getting ready to kick off a contest that will have its finals at the Kern County Fair this year (should be in next month's newsletter) during the summer. Karaoke has a big following here, and getting better all the time. See link for more info. Good luck!

The hardest thing I've found is trying to find a spot that has a great song selection, but also discourages smoking indoors. I've been to Stella's Sand Trap a couple of times, but the THICK CLOUD of smoke chased me away, as a MILITANT EX-smoker, I haven't been back. I love The Junction, wonderful crowd who are there to sing, not party, most nights, but the song choice is limited(I bring my own CDs, as do most of the regulars). Both my girlfriend and I enjoy Muggs, not as many smoking violations these days, seems to be the best of both worlds. The Belvedere is OK in a pinch. If I go out, it's usually to The Junction or to Muggs.
