The Blinded By "Hubris or Hatred" Obama Voter -- Know Them!
I have read with much interest the postings on the thread about Obama and a thought occurs to me. It is an aggregation of many thoughts really, which when rendered to their very essence produce a commonality of theme which I think is instructive at this juncture. I have been witness to the attempts of sadly far too few posters who don’t just “knee-jerk” buy into the message of the new messiah of the Left, only to be torn asunder by the much more prolific postings of those who have boarded this “new train of hope”. I applaud the matter of fact postings of the drillnlifts to the highly idealistic albeit intellectual postings of FreeCognate and the “slightly tempered with a dose of testosterone” nonetheless still idealistic postings of her husband. These are the small cadre (at least evinced by their small number on this thread) of thinking skeptics who are still able to set aside “HOW things are said vs. the reality of WHAT is actually said. One learns to do this in business as a necessary adjunct to financial survival but some thankfully have learned it in other ways. The problem in this is that these well intentioned and overly castigated posters are missing an all important intellectual artifice in their noble quest to overcome the surfeit of irrational exuberance from the other side – those equally well intentioned (one being prone to charity, ulterior motives aside) posters who have bought lock stock and interchangeable barrels into this nouveau polemic of “change”. People have often asked me in speaking engagements to veterans over the years “why did we really lose in KNOW THY ENEMY. DE OPPRESSO LIBER! Our too few (sadly) Special Forces troops knew (know) it but the rank and file don’t. I utilize the term enemy in this regard because we are indeed in a war, an ideological war for our very existence as a sovereign nation. One in which so many have had it so good for so long they have lost the ability to see things as they really are, thus becoming vulnerable to the erudite young purveyor of slogan mentalities which then take on the mantel of a pervasive “truth”. So please indulge me in my usage of the seemingly testosterone driven terms of “war” and “enemy”. This is what you are up against. (Only by knowing who your enemy really is can you defeat him in this ideological war of words and ideas.) The typical Obama supporter resides in that vast oft referred to “middle class” in The VietCong (“across the fence” the Pathet Lao and Khmer Rouge as well) could live on a small bowl of rice all day. Truck prodigious amounts of weaponry, armaments, and materiel down the “Trail” by bicycles or just on foot. They were ideologically driven against this richly funded and technologically advanced enemy by the same deeply seated “inveighing against the immoral enemy” that the Obama supporters are. You do not defeat such a foe by tit-for-tat forays at the periphery, that is THEIR war! This is precisely what is being done on this board, and to a greater extent on boards all across this vast bandwidth enhanced land. Electrons are bullets, the internet itself the virtual MIC (Military Industrial Complex). While it will remain a sometimes amusing but never really satisfying diversion to do so, the tit-for-tat guerilla warfare against this enemy (posting on a BB) is not the effective way to fight this war. In this particular case they have far superior numbers. The public school systems in this country have fostered over time a vast cadre of “have-not (self-perceived or otherwise) warriors” who will not be defeated on the periphery. That is their battlefield and we sadly do not have the number of trained “18 MOS Special Operators” to accomplish the task in this manner. So post away noble rational non-Jonestown purple kool-aide drinkers, but in your off-board time, organize your own power groups of like minded rational analytical non-knee jerk thinkers, decide the most effective alternative to this irrational exuberance driven highly emotive candidate, and work for your own kind of change. The kind of change that will really effect a rational alternative to the massive sea change that is taking over this country at present. A sea change emotional transformational rubric that will see the ruination of this once great country, one which has been weakened by and will ultimately be taken over by rendering us all into that vast dust bin of the “lower middle class”. A now “lower middle class” which will then be on par with the rest of the “global economy” bringing with it the very thing these poor duped “inveighers against the man” think they are fighting against in the first place! Because the Obamites are too brainwashed, short-sighted, illogical, or just anti-American to see it; to sit by while this Pygmalion Effect manifests (not voting because the only rational candidate is not your “principled conservative choice") is a Chick Hearn frozen rope to sure disaster. Donate your time, money, whatever “talents” you have at your disposal, to the Republican candidate and start now. The attempts herein to change these people’s minds are futile, that ship has sailed. You know what trying to teach the Duroc to sing will get you. He’ll never be on American Idol. Don’t just annoy them and get frustrated, get out and work for the Republican Party. Your reward will be knowing that you have saved your country from the now vast minions of this variously disconnected, immature, reckless, and capricious cadre of pseudo-intellectuals who deign, under the guise of “change”, to destroy this experiment in real freedom we call America, a country you know to be the best thing we will ever have to hand down to our grandchildren.

A prediction: Hillary will win Pennsylvania; most of the other remaining primaries are in insignificant states like Oregon, Idaho, and West Virginia. There will be a ton of under-the-table, behind-the-back shenanigans at the convention, the superdelegates will flip-flop, Hillary will get the nomination, and World War III will erupt amongst Democrats. Blacks will call Hillary a "racist," and a "ho," and her husband Bill, the "first black president," will be excommunicated from the black race and relegated to the same level as Orval Faubus was in the 1950s. posted by

Chico: I'm not a Republican but McCain is the best qualified candidate to run for the party. A lot can happen between now and November, so my mind is subject to change. But enough of mundane unimportant prattle such as who's our next president. Recall you gave me advice on chili beans? O.k., the wife and daughter are on vacation. I'm home alone. I slow cooked the pintos in the crockpot; added crushed red chili, finely chopped garlic, onions, and jalepano. I don't know if the hamburger is Angus, but it is 90% lean. Added spicey enchilada sauce instead of tomato sauce. Serve generous portions in a bowl, sprinkle with graded shredded sharp cheddar, top with hot Mexican salsa from the 99-cent store, yum down. Got enough to last till next week. The weather is warm enough to open doors and windows to air out the house so the women won't know the difference. Unless the cat gives me away by wearing a gas mask. posted by

What is McCain policy on the economy, what is he going to do for the middle class? What are his plans for health care, education, the national debt, the sinking value of th dollar, rebuilding our military and defense? How is he planning in uniting all Americans who have been split and divided w/ the current Admin. posted by

Very thoughtful, but I'm just one of the have-not kool-aid imbibers. I still have no idea why Barack Obama, or liberalism, terrifies such a large chunk of the population. Is having universal health care such a bad thing? If a person works forty hours a week don't they deserve to earn a wage that can sustain them above the poverty line? Do you and your friends truly believe only cartels and duopolies should be the benefit of government subsidies and should dominate all industrial sectors? There are so many financial scandals from huge corporate players these days that the term ethics when applied to business is an oxymoron. From a historical perspective, I am a big fan of many Republican policies administered under Theodore Roosevelt. What happened to that Republican Party? It's hard to get a group together to find common interest when your stated goal is to annihilate all competition, and the word share is only defined as stock ownership in the Republican dictionary.

Adam, a large chunk of the population has gotten used to living terrified over the past eight years. They're terrified of not being terrified. . The Republicans are pushing that because they'd much rather run against Clinton. Even if she wins, it'll be a plus for their side, as she'd win by fracturing the Democratic party. (Not that fracture isn't our normal state...) Obama would win by unifying us. posted by

Even though I'm a complete and total a**hole on this blog, I'm actually very good with people, which is why I make a decent living as a salesman. Those whose only commercial talents are mopping a floor or changing sheets and trashcan liners aren't going to live above the poverty line. One of the reasons that liberalism "terrifies" so many people, Adam, is that liberals advocate putting a government social program in the place of one's fundamental responsibilty to themselves and to their families. Liberals support racial and gender preferences, multi-lingual education throughout K-12, and many liberals blame the United States government for the world's problems, yet when the going gets tough, expect said government to make it all better.

Best perspective I've read in a long time. I am surrounded daily by liberal friends[left of Gandhi] and they are mostly retired living on the central coast doing whatever they want everyday of the week They have newer cars nice homes, either insured medial, medicare or the VA { God bless them}. They are my age and didn't work at a government entity so are not entitled to the amazingly cushy retirement received at the tax payers cost [I am truly thankful] but they are very comfortable. Yet not a day goes by that each of them cry about how bad the economy is for them and everyone else. I have pointed out their lot in life and how the campgrounds are full of very expensive RVs every weekend. The gas stations have lines of new cars lined up to buy nearly $4.00 gasoline and almost no one is skinny. There are couple of homeless people hanging around but with the unemployment rate at near 5% I believe their lot is self induced. Their glass is always less than half full. The few conservative friends I have say the same thing, our liberal friends suffer from some sort of depression, perpetually bad news driven and will avoid good news. I am one pretty happy guy around a den of woe is me.

JBS & Chico, the world has changed dramatically in the workplace over the past forty years. The movement to centralize purchasing, marketing and every creative operations aspect in the work-world has left an economy driven by drones serving precious few queens at the biggest corporate and governmental department hives. Schools don't offer much in the way of creative courses today. Art, theater, dance, vocational and music classes are the first to go when the cuts come down. It should come as no surprise to see school dropout rates soar in an environment of rote learning for endless bubble-boxed examinations of dreary facts or problems. The entire concept of critical thinking, which needs to take into account multiple points of view, has been relegated to the scrap heap. Is it any wonder why people have trouble acknowledging differing points of view? All of the education cuts and reduced use of the right side of the brain for creative thinking in our schools have prepared the student for the preponderance of work at drudgery assembly lines in restaurants, retail, service, agriculture and manufacturing. Technical fields, which used to offer a modicum of creative ability to thrive, have been reclassified in most industries where task-reduced parameters to more easily train and replace the employee now dominate the landscapes and provide less mental and economic opportunity for all. We have emerged in this decade with a preponderance of really repetitive and low paying occupations to satisfy a growing work force and reduce opportunity. How does a nation who designs drones for the workplace have a chance for tomorrow when these same drones cannot think reasonably about many important issues of today? We now have a management class of losers who can't recognize a box much less think outside it. I won't bore either one of you with statistics from studies that show opportunity being greatly reduced these last few decades in America or about the shift of wealth to the smallest percentage ever seen in this country's history. I'm sure both of you have others that can show people continue to climb and fall at about the same pace as usual. I will say that the mood of optimism is quickly fading from the American landscape. This is reinforced by the vast numbers of young people coming to terms with a reality that does not fit their video game world of dominance, excitement and reward. Jobs are scarce and pay is low while food and living expenses are very high. I believe one party offers the same sad and brutal scenario the American worker and small entrepreneur has been forced to reckon this decade. No shot and no way out. I believe the other party is flawed, but at least offers the best chance to change course and get the country moving forward with a sense of real cooperative purpose and optimism. Time to turn off the war channel and turn out something useful and productive for our country. Bunker busting bombs need not apply. Anyway, thanks always for both of your commentaries, and for the post.

Three major problems I had with BO’s speech:: (swooning, fainting, overwhelmed with warm and fuzzies, all-accepting Libs aside) 1) The comparison of Jeremiah Wright with your local preachers of choice :: “Did I strongly disagree with many of his political views? Absolutely – just as I’m sure many of you have heard remarks from your pastors, priests, or rabbis with which you strongly disagreed.” I don’t think many of us have experienced anything like the remonstrations of the Reverend Wright from our pastors, priests, or rabbis. This is the “too clever by half” technique utilized by many to justify the absolute despicable behavior and words of those they support. If we had, not only would we have walked out but enough others to render their respective congregations moot. This is disingenuous on its face, however delivered in such a way as to appear minimally offensive. 2) His politicizing of the race issue, throwing those in his own party under the proverbial “gramma bus” :: “just as some have dismissed Geraldine Ferraro, in the aftermath of her recent statements, as harboring some deep-seated racial bias. We can pounce on some gaffe by a Hillary supporter as evidence that she’s playing the race card, or we can speculate on whether white men will all flock to John McCain in the general election regardless of his policies.” I thought it delicious poetic irony at first when the 3) Just as he did Ms. Ferraro, BO opportunistically utilized his grandmother. “I can no more disown him than I can my white grandmother – a woman who helped raise me, a woman who sacrificed again and again for me, a woman who loves me as much as she loves anything in this world, but a woman who once confessed her fear of black men who passed by her on the street, and who on more than one occasion has uttered racial or ethnic stereotypes that made me cringe.” This ground has been sufficiently covered by others but it is telling nonetheless. This wasn’t just an odd acquaintance or even a friend – it was the woman who he admits gave him unconditional love and raised him. Now, to all the world she is a racist. That, to me is the lowest of levels to which he sank in the speech that was so uplifting to the unthinking non-analytical swooners in his camp. I hope they wouldn’t do that to their respective grandmothers but I guess by tacit affirmation I can only presume they would….. My what political expediency will do to a feller…………. posted by

Nancy, the thing about liberals is, we have to have a sense of humor about things--look at who the country's been led by for 20 years--and that will see us through the inevitable crash. . Sean Insanity apparently said something about conservatives committing suicide if a Democrat won this election. That would greatly simplify our fund-raising...but I don't believe him. He was so obvious about his ABC (anybody but clinton) paradigm that a new viewer would have thought him an Obamite. Now, with the Rev Wright resurgence, he is on that like dots on dice. Talk about moistened index finger to the wind....... Still, in comparison to a Kieth Olbermann (simplistic sophomoric humor), he seems like a George Will or WFB (RIP) even! posted by

NancyII, a little cranky today? I'm really glad to read you and yours are doing so well. I'm not sure what ramped you up but no liberal I know, myself included, is thinking about slashing any wrists. We are busy working to replace the current Administration with a President that offers a substantial departure from the current one. You must think nothing of having the arts in education slashed, and $4.5 billion dollars of voter approved funding for schools cut by our governor. I won't let anymore facts get in the way of your lifestyle opinions. Facts afterall are so bothersome and annoying. You know, like no WMD in a nation that had nothing to do with 9/11that has no chance at building a democracy in a region that despises our presence. And we're fighting for exactly what? I won't bother to remind you about the trillion dollar surplus our fearless and clueless leader inherited as President in 2001, which he has squandered on absolutely nothing but his family buddies for seven years. I'll let you get back to those re-runs now.

....and another thing about the Obama speech and surrounding swoon fest: Obama says he thinks OJ was guilty, but he understands the celebration in the black community. The idea being that it is OK to let a double murderer go free because some other black people have faced injustice in the criminal justice system. That this represents some kind of collective punishment message more important than what OJ did as an individual person to other people and their families! Thisis very troubling to me. posted by

It is early sure but............... McCain leads 46 percent to 40 percent in a hypothetical matchup against Obama in the November presidential election, according to the poll.
That is a sharp turnaround from the Reuters/Zogby poll from last month, which showed in a head-to-head matchup that Obama would beat McCain 47 percent to 40 percent.
"The last couple of weeks have taken a toll on Obama and in a general election match-up, on both Democrats," said pollster John Zogby.
Matched up against Clinton, McCain leads 48 percent to 40 percent, narrower than his 50 to 38 percent advantage over her in February posted by

"1968 ,split window, walk through, a Kombi technically, but whose bragging?" Sage, You might want to check the year of your VW Bus. Volkswagon stopped making split front window buses in 1967. If your Bus is a split front window it is acually worth a pretty penny even if it is not in good shape. Here is a great VW link in case you havn't heard of it. thesamba.com. posted by
