"Dr." Mark Martinez -- Some Questions -- Feel Free to Use Surrogate Chica to Answer.......
I just got done dong a short run to Richgrove........ Listened to your radio "show" on 1230 AM........... I have a few questions for you, again feel free to utilize surrogate Chica to answer (I know I scare you as I have your number) these very basic questions I had listening to your "show"----- 1) A caller called in and said he made less than $50,000 per year gross. You said you were in the same situation. I will, of course check this, but is that really the case? Or were you just Lying (poetic license you might rejoinder as a defense) ....... Just WHAT is the real truth? 2) You admitted that you have a diesel truck and pay the relevant high prices thereto. Why do you have such a vehicle in these times of conservation being the ultimo facet of our solution to the energy problems? It sounded like you have a full size diesel pick up which is not needed in your line of "work"..... 3) You had someone supposedly representing Chevron on there you kept referring to as "Uduak from Chevron" purported to be a real and true spokesman for Chevron Oil. The man kept touting Obama and his energy policies and directing people to his website -- punctuated by his mis-statements on the details of the oil and gas business........ Was this man chosen to be a real spokesman for Chevron or someone you brought on to just tout Obama under that guise? (I had to wonder when he made statements that are easily provably false re the O&G business by any competent geologist-geophysicist-petroleum engineer)...... What have you to say to these questions Mr. "Dr." Martinez? (or will we be treated to more from the lipid loquacious Easter candy again?) 35 comments from 13 users

Answer these 3 simple questions Mr. "Dr." Mark Martinez -- if you utilize surrogates I will understand. Even if those surrogates are ones that hound me around this website, copying me as they, much like yourself (Reuters pronounced "rooters" and Robert Reisch pronounced by you as "Rike" for entire shows) -- Can you not fend for yourself on a mere blog? You will not engage people like me on your show -- you are a mis (vastly under) informed cabesa de nudillo, who hides behind his "Hispanic" ethnicity to engage the airwaves while being in no way justified to do so (by expertise or intelligence)........ you are a product of Political Correctness and should be shown to have no clothes (intellectually or factually).......... Can you (will you) respond? posted by

Uduak Ntuk is one of two people from Bakersfield chosen as Obama delegates to the Dems convention. I think he is an engineer or something with Chevron, but if he tried to pass himself off as a spokeperson for Chevron he probably violated their conflict of interest policies. The only people in the industry that I ever saw as supporting any Democrat were the hardcore union guys. They were so ignorant, they thought the Republicans were to blame for exploration bans offshore California. posted by

{crickets} Dr. Martinez {crickets} While I have more work to do until dark, I will not leave this topic. You (sans "fairness doctrine") bully pulpit your views on a captive audience (some of us confined to a cab) and that is just fine as first amendment fodder, can you not answer just the three very basic simplistic questions proffered? Or will we be just greeted with the all to predictable remonstrations of your minions (TSM, ML, RF, MP, etc........) or even those of the lugubrious mimic candy (easter)???? posted by

Drill -- this guy was as transparent as a Dutch front window. He had as much expertise re hydrocarbon extraction and the gestalt of the o&g business, I had to grab steering wheel and just shake my head every now and again. But, given Mr. Mark Martinez' background, I was little surprised............ He, like RF and others, actually believes the BTU conversion value of electric (even if fossil fuel produced) vs. direct fuel to internal combustion engine is a net energy (work) positive.......... The guy was a sham.............. pure and simple.......... but I bet the masses ate it up (with a spade shovel) posted by

I don't listen to 1230, Chico, and you've made me glad I don't. 1230, however, is not the only radio station that calls itself "news" and puts on self-appointed spokepersons for some cause or another. I'd like to have a 24-hour news radio station in Bakersfield to tune into. posted by

I can answer number 1 for you. You can look up the salary of any state employee, including CSU employees, at www.sacbee.com/1098/story/738462.html Enter in his last name and select "Bakersfield State" for the Agency or University. That will give you his gross pay rate for CSUB. Have fun and look around at other folks around town too. Last I checked, you could only have 10 searches per session, so choose wisely :) posted by

Thanks a lot for the radio tip, Chico! I had no idea any person of the liberal persuasion was allowed on the commercial air waves in these parts. I have been listening to a lot of NPR lately, and they actually bristle at the the thought that they have a liberal bias. But, I'm sure NPR, though at the center, is way too left for you. I also must thank you for continually running down the very few Latino voices in the community. How many Latinos actually have a public voice in these parts? Four? You and the many conservative bloggers on this site do the left a big service by posting personal and racial attacks on a huge minority group that by all estimates will be the majority ethnic group in the Central Valley within 20 years time. Kudos to you! I'm also a little disappointed you fail to mention one issue Dr. Martinez addressed on his show, preferring to engage in a personal vendetta as opposed to an honest argument over issues and policy. This is why most people are so turned off by conservative tactics and rhetoric. The policies endorsed by the extreme right only benefit the extremely rich and selfish. It will be nice to watch the election returns this year and witness the nation repudiate the hostile anti-worker excesses endorsed by the ever dwindling Republican Party. posted by

I tend not to use the term Hispanic. I certainly am not sure what "BS Lib rhetoric" you are worried about becoming the "law of the land" in the near future, or what entitlements are out there for old dudes like myself. Or anyone for that matter. I have to pay for health care, any further education I might need, and I am a ways away from both Social Security and Medicare. Hell, I can't even touch my feeble 401k for many years without a major penalty. I don't see any entitlements for guys my age. I don't get a subsidy for growing Indian figs, plums and grapes in my backyard. If you want to talk about health care and what the country should do to cover all citizens, let's talk. Or infrastructure and how we pay for the vital improvements necessary to repair the damage caused by decades of neglect. Or let's talk about specific entitlements and subsidies for the giant factory farms and food processors who put out crap the rest of the world doesn't want to touch with your ten foot pole, and people of intelligence here avoid at all costs. But thanks again for continuing to steer your brethren into the liberal stream. Hasta! posted by

Adam is an old style Lib-Socialist who jumps on what he perceives as an attack on what again, he perceives, as an attack on an oppressed grouping (the more main stream media topical the better) ......... Its an insult to what he calls "Hispanics"............. The decades of neglect have not been the sole source of the Republicans Adam........ though you would dearly like to couch it that way.......... It is insulting to me that you and and MSM (who are firmly in Obamas pocket) presume that all "Hispanics" are going to just vote Obama by rote........ because you spout health care and infrastructure mantras (which I might agree with you on re infrastructure=business) does not deter from the fact that Martinez (whatever ethnicity he might be) is wrong in what he says........ he needs to be held accountable for his statements just like anyone else would be........... be they Anglo, black, Hispanic, Asian, or anything else...... Don't you agree? (or are you just so entrenched in the Lib talking point modality that you think anyone who questions the sacred Hispanic professor is just a bigot-racist-evil conservative? posted by

Mostly Mexicans heritage I admit, hard working people that just want a better life for their families. I agree with you on the infrastructure as we drive trucks over the bridges, our tires are torn up by potboles, (and they are expensive beyond belief), and we need more asphalt (actually I wish we had more concrete down) but on the entitlements = you are way away from me man -- socialists will re-distribute the income from 401K's and even public pension plans (CALPERS, 37 Act, etc.) ....... just wait Your Obamassiah is not what you perceive. posted by

Beef. Maybe you have followed the recent salmonella outbreak, Catherine. Our factory farming practices of putting tonnage through huge processing plants and slaughterhouses to be cut up and remade into all sorts of different commodities on the shelves means inspectors (the too few on the job) don't have a clue where the contamination started from. Europe has refused our poultry because it is washed in chlorine. The ban is still in effect. Europe tests millions of cattle for mad cow disease. Here is an excerpt from a report the NY Times on the difference between our test practice methods compared to Europe and Japan: In the wake of the first case, the Agriculture Department issued assurances that American beef was safe. Although most Americans did not stop buying beef, foreign customers were openly skeptical, for several reasons. The chief one was that the United States was testing only a tiny fraction of the 30 million animals it slaughtered each year. In 1997, the year it banned feeding ruminant protein to other ruminants because of the suspicions about the disease in Europe, it tested only 219 animals. In 2003, when the first positive was found, it was testing about 20,000 a year. At the time, European countries were testing 10 million animals annually, and the Japanese were testing every one of the 1.2 million they slaughtered. (Dr. Ron DeHaven, then the Agriculture Department’s chief veterinarian, publicly mocked that standard, comparing it to a doctor testing every patient, regardless of age or sex, for prostate cancer.) Even after the first case was found, the department initially resisted increased its testing, and then raised it to only about 40,000 animals a year. Here is an editorial from the Houston Chronicle detailing more on America's woeful factory slaughter methods. It suggests why we are at risk and why there is a growing movement to move to a more local and humane method of producing livestock. The rest of the world no longer trusts our methods and practices. posted by

And yet Adam the cases of BSE are greater in UK than anywhere and the only ones we have even had scares on were from Canada. We haven't been feeding body parts like they have in UK for years. They NEED to test. Have you ever been to cow sale? Seen B stampings and others? Used to be for Brucillosis. You have to know the industry before you start doing like Maggie -- C&P's from Google............. Sure I could go along with you in good times -- grass feed em to 600 or so even in really good times to 800 or 900........ But when grass is bad, we have to dump em on feed lots and they can get em to mkt weight. But you know what? We don't have BSE here, and even those close ones have been traced back to Canada. You can talk salmonella all you want but that can occur anywhere, anytime......... I wish there were more meat inspectors too........... helps our end product ergo prices to us........ Its real easy for armchair inspectors to denigrate the system but I have to ask you, how many cases of salmonella let alone BSE have occurred in this country -- with USDA Beef affecting our consumers? You are talking about a livelihood for my entire family bud, and that is some serious stuff. Your scare tactics that might keep people from buying that Rib Eye at Albertsons or Vons hurts an entire class of people -- and possibly for no good reason. I think that is irresponsible. I haven't heard of anyone in the U.S. catching mad cow disease, Adam. I'm more likely to catch hepatitis from my Taco Bell order, but that's another story. OPEC Leader Khelil Says Dollar Will Drive Oil to $170
June 28 (Bloomberg) -- OPEC President Chakib Khelil predicted that the price of oil will climb to $170 a barrel before the end of the year, citing the dollar's decline and political conflicts. ``Oil prices are expected to reach $170 as demand for fuel is growing in the U.S. during the summer period and the dollar continues to weaken against the euro,'' Khelil said today in a telephone interview. The leader of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries also serves as Algeria's oil minister. Political pressure on Iran and the depreciation of the U.S. currency have caused a surge in oil prices, Khelil said. New York- traded crude has more than doubled in a year and touched a record $142.99 a barrel yesterday on the New York Mercantile Exchange. OPEC ministers generally say that oil output is sufficient, even as Saudi Arabia, the biggest producer, pledged to pump an extra 200,000 barrels a day next month to calm the market. ``The market is completely supplied,'' Venezuelan Oil Minister Rafael Ramirez said yesterday. Libya announced possible production cuts, calling the market oversupplied. The rising cost of crude is not linked to supply, Khelil said today. ``There is more than enough oil in the market to meet the international demand,'' added the OPEC president, who will take part June 30 in an international energy forum in Madrid. Prices, which are up 38 percent this quarter, are heading for the biggest quarterly gain since the first three months of 1999, when oil traded between $11 and $17. Declining Dollar ``The decisions made by the U.S. Federal Reserve and the European Central Bank helped the devaluation of the dollar, which pushed up oil prices,'' Khelil said. Oil may extend gains if the ECB boosts rates on July 3, further weakening the U.S. currency. The dollar has declined 15 percent against the euro in 12 months. posted by

Bueford (sp) went the way of all flesh, especially that of beef cattle. He was sold down at WSM in Fomosa years ago. I imagine he had a few good goes before pushing his chips to the center of the table though......... While cattle are a mostly fungible good (like bbls of crude) I have to admit to having a soft spot in my heart for certain of those mostly fungible items. Bueford was one of those. I've had a lot of Brangus bulls over the years and he was typical of the breed. He "only" weighed in at around 1465 when I sold him so he was not that big as far as some of the "keys" (Chianina's) or even Charlaois I have had, even beefmaster or shorthorn crosses. But he was gentle beyond belief (grand kids would give him "noogies" all the time (no matter how much I warned em....... at least they kept a manger and fence between themselves and ol Buef) and he would just chew his hay and every once in a while shake his massive head while the kids would recoil in fright. I think he was teaching them a valuable lesson (OK I'm pressing on this one) -- but I honestly miss ol Buef. I've never been one to keep bulls very long. A few seasons at most. I know a lot of fellers that keep them for years but I many times will use them one season and then its off to Overland or WSM, etc..... I'm too much of an old softie and would probably become attached....... not good in this biz. My wife laughs at me...... So I'm glad that Lana takes me and Buef's teasing in the right way -- I wish she coulda met him. They could have compared hooves {haha} -- RIP Bueford........ posted by

Chico: I was forwarded your comments by a listener. Thanks for tuning in. As I understand it, this is not your first comment about my program, or what I have written. You should call in some time (631-1230). In all cases, you should keep in mind that some of my comments are "tongue-in-cheek" (that means I'm being sarcastic). It's often done in these type of forums. It's what people do to lighten a moment (and what I like to do to get Candi to start joking about my professional background). It's radio. Keep that in mind. However, if you took the $50,000 comment at face value you need to pay better attention to the tone and previous comments. But this is small potatoes. Where in the world does it say I have to drive a hybrid? Better yet, can you direct me to the book that says what cars a university professor can drive? Chico, you need to move away from caricatures and try and understand how the real world works. Finally, Uduak Ntuk was not representing Chevron. Every audience I know has an interest in people who come on air, and most would like to know the background of my guests. Uduak was reluctant to go beyond discussing his professional background (petroleum engineer), but did so because we asked him to. You also need to be more specific about the "facts" that were discussed. Your claims about "false" statements are both empty and suggest a general lack of understanding of the facts that you claim to be interested in when you provide no specifics. You can send them to markmartinezshow@gmail.com. There's more, but I have to go. - Mark
