We walked into Wine Me Up last Thursday and the place was PACKED! It was so great to see them doing well. They opened up last December and we stopped in to check it out but we were only ones there for quite some time. We didn't mind the special attention from the very friendly owners but I had hoped the word would get out and they would start to get a following. Well, that is exactly what happened! This is the perfect place to go whether you know a lot about wine, or nothing at all....

In the Basque District there are several bars/restaurants conveniently located within stumbling distance of each other. Narducci's is the first on our journey through this part of town. Mainly because this is one of our frequent haunts.   They serve Hef on tap, have several decent wines by the glass available and a fully stocked bar.    And then there is The Moscow Mule, a fantastic drink as long as you don't have more than a couple.  It is...

It is that time again for Office Holiday Parties.  This is not a time to try new and exotic drinks or do body shots.  The best rule is to follow the lead of your boss, unless of course he is like Michael Scott "The Office." You do not want to be the topic of conversation at the water cooler Monday morning.  Definite Dont's Don't be the only one dancing or singing.  If you can't wait to get your groove on, go to The...

If you are still looking for that perfect gift for the oenophile or lush in your life, here are some ideas:   The Chardonnay drinker - Try a Sauvignon Blanc or a Pinot Gris and help them break out of their rut.   The red wine drinker - An Oregon Pinot Noir or Paso Robles Syrah   (Since available specialty wines are constantly changing ask your favorite wine buyer what they recommend.  Luigi's has a unique assortment of wines that would please any...

Don't let the winter chill get you down. Warm up the old fashioned way, with booze!  Italian Toddy To one mug of hot apple cider add, 1 shot of Tuaca (an Italian liqueur carried by most grocery stores) Put a dallop of whipped cream and a dash of Nutmeg or Cinnamon on top if desired. Enjoy!

A bottle of whisky distilled in 1926 sold for $54,000 Saturday at New York's first liquor auction since Prohibition. A second bottle - straight rye whisky made in 2003 from a recipe used by America's first President, George Washington - sold to an anonymous bidder for $6,000 at the Christie's auction. "It's an old recipe," said the auction house's wine and spirit specialist, Justin Christoph. "Only Martha [Washington] knew the whole recipe." The list of...

In anticipation of the weekend ahead we thought it would be interesting to share some hangover helpers. I know in those moments of desperation we will try anything to feel normal again. All so we can start round two of course! Now, these are not guaranteed to work, nor is there any medical or scientific evidence to back them up. If anyone has a sure fire way to get rid of one, share the knowledge!!!   First thing is definitely ibuprofen, preferably before you go to bed with as much...

In the mood to sing your heart out? Stop by Schweitzer’s Pit Stop tonight for some karaoke from 9-12. If singing isn’t your thing, you can just observe and listen which is just as fun! The bar gets loud and crazy and the usual suspects are always armed with the microphone. We have the resident wannabe Rockstar, Leather Jacket Man, and last but not least the Man in Chaps dancing on top of the bar. Good times had by all! The atmosphere is VERY casual. It’s a...

Need I say more? Ok, I guess I should for those of you who have never been here before. If your tastebuds are crying out for something different and fantastic, this is the place you want to go. Microbrew at it’s best,  and made right here in good ‘ol Bako. No born on date or blue rocky mountains necessary. It fresh, it’s cold, it’s perfection.  Our personal favorites…..The Oh Susanna (try it if you enjoy the Raspberry Wheat).   Another...
