Condors face tough task in trying times

With their coaching staff suspended and a fellow player in jail, (see stories in sports), it’s been a rough 48  hours for the Condors.
But there’s no time for them to be distracted. The hottest team in the ECHL (8-1-1), which happens to be fighting for a playoff spot, as the Condors get right back into the frey tonight against the Alaska Aces.
It’s a heck of a double-whammy and it will be interesting to see how the team responds. A month ago, it might have been totally devastating, but the feeling here is this team has grown tremendously since then, believes in themselves and will come out with an us-against-the-world attitude that will help them maintain their current level of play.
That doesn’t guarantee a win, but I would expect a great deal of intensity when the puck drops tonight shortly after 7.
Former Condor goaltender and current goaltending coach Scott Hay, along with former team captain Sean Venedam, will lead the team in the absence of Marty Raymond and Mark Pederson.
“It’s a different perspective for me for sure,” Hay said after the morning skate on Tuesday. “It will be a challenge to keep the boys focused and the train on the track so to speak. It’s not hard to look for motivation right now. The boys are rallying.”
A side note: Good news out of the organization comes as winger Chad Painchaud was named ECHL player of the week, the second straight week that honor has gone to a Condor. Painchaud had five goals and five assists as the Condors went 3-0-1. Mike Wirll earned the honor last week.

First thing is, I dont think I would want to be the aces right now, our guys may be in a bad mood, but I think they will play with a great deal of passion tonight!

second thought is, why has the Condors front office tried to be more accessible straight off, to avoid the rumors swirling around town already.

  Go get em tonight Boys

This could be a good one. All the players from the Aces and Condors met at center ice with about six minutes left in pre-game warmup. There was some pushing and shoving and plenty of talking. About a dozen Aces crossed over the center line to the Bakersfield side of the ice during the altercation. Cooler heads prevailed, the referee and linesmen quickly  emerged from the dressing room to make sure the situation was defused and the warmups were completed with no further drama.

A suprising lack of urgency tonight.  I would have thought that they would have played as if their lives depended on it, yet it was the total opposite.  Michel and Carisio seemed to try and jump start this team, but nothing worked.  Two goals back to back and we were done.  I think this is affecting the team more than they want to let on.

This stinks.  I really enjoyed watching both games over the weekend.  The guys played better than I have seen all season.  Tons of fun, even the shootout loss.  People do dumb stuff.  None of us are immune.  I don't know what was going on in LaPointes mind at the time but this is very unfortunate.  He made a mistake.  I am not excusing him but it really stinks that this had to happen right now while they are so hot.  Obviously this is unrelated to the coaching situation so I can't help but wonder what happened there.  I know they can't talk about it but has anyone heard anything???  No obnoxious speculation though please...

It seems the boys were pretty tired last night, which explains their effort level.  They will rest and be ready to go here shortly.
