Kim brings scoring touch and question marks to Condors
The much-traveled Alex Kim arrived in Bakersfield on Tuesday and will make his Condors debut against the Utah Grizzlies on Wednesday. Kim is an offensive talent who has a rap of being a "me" guy who doesn't get along well with others. He has the ability to excel, as he did in San Diego last year — 38 points in 24 games and a team-high plus-17. The plus -17 is an indication that he certainly can play on both sides of the ice. However, he never did gel in Long Beach where, as captain, he played in just five games and was traded to the Condors for cash. The Condors already have an assortment of "castoffs" on the roster. The question is, will Kim fit in with the other "misfits?"

Selfishness has no place in hockey. It's a team sport that requires you to have trust in your team/linemates. He'll either fit in or disrupt the team chemistry. I do like the diversity that Kim brings to the team, and his scoring touch is needed. The condors are only 3 wins behind first place fresno. Let's hope he can help push the team ahead and do well in the playoffs.

Mike Griffith,

What's up with the Condors security running a metal detector over every fan before games? It seems a bit harsh for a minor league hockey game. It isn't usually done in the NHL, so why is the rabobank arena more of a threat? Can you please find out what's up? There are lots of fans that feel like they're being hassled at the doors and staying home because of it.

I watched Alex Kim play many times at Colorado College, when I lived in Colorado Springs.  I'm looking forward to seeing him play with the Condors.  I don't know about his personallity or propensity to rub people wrong, but I can understand if he might be a little bit frustrated with his career so far.  If he does fit in here, he'll undoubtedly perform very well, and will therefore not stay here long either.  Many of his CC classmates are playing at higher levels, and he should certainly consider himself to be of at least equal skill.

Are the Condors still without an NHL affiliate?

ProgressivePete2,
The Condors are not affiliated with an NHL team. As for the wanding at Rabobank, I thought that was reduced or halted. I'll check tonight. At the Staples Center in LAsall fans pass through a metal detector as they enter the building with security waiting to wand if needed. That is the same situation at the new arena in Glendale, Ariz. where the Coyotes play.

Thanks for the answer Mike. I sure hope they have changed the policy. I haven't been to Staples center, but at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, they don't have metal detectors or the wands that I've seen, and only scan your ticket and tell you to have a great time...with a smile. It's a very friendly atmosphere. Now of course there are a bunch of cops outside the doors just in case. I guess with all the trouble they've had in LA after those Lakers championships I can understand why they would want/need tighter security. I don't anticipate too many riots after a Condors game, even if they win the championship. Maybe it's just me.

It's great to hear that former Condors goalie Fukufuji is now playing in the NHL. Hopefully he'll get to start a game soon.
