CondorsTalk - > Condors Talk -> Condors lay an egg
Condors lay an egg

That was a pretty big egg the Condors laid Saturday night at Rabobank Arena, falling 8-2 to the Ontario Reign after drubbing that team 5-0 a night earlier.
I guess one good butt-kicking led to another.
It certainly was an inauspicious pro debut for 20-year old goaltender Timo Pielmeier, who allowed seven goals on 19 shots through two periods of play.
Yes, there were several of those he'd like to have back. But then again, it would have been nice if the defense hadn't left guys open again and again in the slot.
As Condors coach Marty Raymond said, Pielmeier will be fine.
So will the rest of the team.
The Condors had free rein of the ice on Friday night as Ontario had no answer for Bakersfield's quick transistion game.
Saturday, an Ontario trap clearly frustrated the Condors who refused to bend. Instead of dumping the puck deep, retrieving and cycling, the Condors, for the most part, continued to try and play an up-tempo game. It didn't turn out all that well.
Lesson learned. Sometimes gritty is better than fancy.
On the plus side, the Condors still managed to fired 36 shots on goal. Ontario goaltender Curtis Darling had a strong outing but the Condors failed to bury some great chances.
All in all, not a bad opening weekend. An impressive win and a loss that surely left an impression on the young team.
Now it's on to Victoria where the Condors better be ready for a surly bunch of Salmon Kings, who are coming off a pair of losses in Alaska.

All hype, no hope. Marty can't lie his way through this season.....

Really Sandro? 2 games into the season and no hope? Way to show some faith. We certainly know who the real fans are huh?

Friday's game was too good. Saturday's game was awful. The real Condors are somewhere in the upper middle range. Great talent, great technical skill and tremendous discipline is what I saw over the first two games. The Condors are in better shape now than I have seen them in years. I'm expecting a great season! Go Condors!

Sadly, the Reign fans showed far better spirit than the Condors fans did. That was a shame.

No "hype" just a young team that has to bond and find it's groove.  Sad that 2 games into the season and you have them buried already.  Marty's a liar too, huh?  Hmmm.

I have lots of hope for the Condors!!!  So do their real fans...

We're only 2 games in! Calm down.

As for me, I look at the awesome win/horrid loss from this perspective. The team had a great high on Friday night with a game and win like that. The hussle of Friday's team was superb. A long time coming for us long time fans in Condorstown to see a game like that (regardless or score, just the efficient gameplay). And then here comes Saturday night's game where reality hits you like a brick in the head, and you realize that you are only 2 games in and have a lot more work to do. They're not all going to be cake wins like Friday night. I think it's bittersweet, but it's only 1 loss.

GO CONDORS! :)

Opening night was awesome, but I didn't go Saturday so won't comment on that other than to say it's a long season. I think there's a lot more potential this season than last, so I'm going to be optimistic. Points from Friday:

1) It's the first game of the season and someone has a "C" on their jersey. That's a step in the right direction.

2) Kettlecorn? Sweeeet!

3) I like the hairy one. (Eichenlaub)

4) Nice fight from Bolt. I thought he was a bit timid last season, so it was good to see him go at it.

5) Sexton is fast and furious.

6) Sasha. I've never known of anyone named Sasha that I didn't like.

7) Timo has some serious highlights in his hair.

8) It's noticeable that some sponsors have abandoned ship.

9) Condor games provide a great night out. I'm glad it's hockey season.

Wow............2 games in and you have already determined that the Condors have lost the season?  Best that you step away and stay away.  We need positive support, not negative detraction.  Let the real fans get the ball rolling in the stands and new and returning fans will make this place rock.  Nothing you can come up with will be heard by the coaching staff.  Do you stop by the practice ice rink to watch the efforts?............probably not.  Do you show up early for a game to watch the pre-game workout......probably not.  Are you a booster club member?.............probably not.  Those of us who support our Condors do so without fail.  Yes, we do some times get frustrated, but we never unload on a two game total like you did.........shame on you.   Stay home.
