Will new goaltender be a big step up for Condors?
So much for a “working agreement” with the Los Angeles Kings. The Condors told the Kings on Tuesday that the services of rookie goaltender Danny Taylor were no longer needed, effectively ending a three-year relationship.
Taylor has struggled almost all season long (4.23 goals-against average/.872 save percentage) and with the Philadelphia Phantoms (the Flyers’ AHL affiliate) eager to send second-year goaltender Rejean Beauchemin to the Condors it was time for a change.
Beauchemin wasn’t sharp in seven games with the Phantoms earlier this season (4.68 goals GAA/.850 save percentage) before suffering an injury to his hand, but he had good numbers at the ECHL level in Trenton last year.
The Condors needs a solid backup for Jamie Hodson down the stretch and are betting that Beauchemin can get the job done. Beauchemin’s assignment to the Condors could also be the first step toward a affiliation next season. Bakersfield is just one of two ECHL without a higher-level affiliation.
