The Condors just can't seem to find a way to win one-goal games, but they appear to be finding their way toward being a better team. Saturday night's 3-2 shootout loss to the Fresno Falcons was the most complete game yet for this young team. On the plus side, they made far fewer trips to the penalty box, and their defensive-end play and transition game was the best yet from start to finish of a game. Condors coach Marty Raymond pointed out that, despite losing in shootout, that...

It's going to take some time, but if the Condors can begin to show some consistency, pay attention to the systems and work together this just might be a fun team to watch this season. That was evident by a late-first-period rally and an dominating second period as the Condors evened their ECHL record at 1-1 with a 7-4 win over Stockton on Wednesday night. On the other side of the coin, most of the first period was painful to watch due to numerous breakdowns which kept  the Condors...

It was a great opening night party at Rabobank Arena on Saturday night, other that the outcome as the Ontario Reign skated away with a 2-1 victory. A crowd of nearly 8,000, just a few hundred less than capacity, came out to see the new-look Condors and what they saw varied. The Condors were erratic in the first two periods and, much like their NHL affiliate the Anaheim Ducks have often done early in this season, took too many trips to the penalty box. That proved costly as both of Ontario's...

Rookie winger Jason Bailey, a third-round draft pick of Anaheim in 2005, is on his way to Bakersfield. Bailey, 6-foot-1, 205, left the University of Michigan as a sophomore during the 2006-07 season to play in juniors for the Ottawa 67's. He missed half of last season with numerous injuries and scored 17 points in 34 games. He reportedly plays a “disruptive” style of hockey.  With Bailey, the Condors now have nine players assigned to them by AHL or NHL clubs.

Well, not of the Bakersfield Condors. The Condors wil spend the first part of the ECHL season without a team captain as coach Marty Raymond has opted to go with three altenate captains. Defenseman Scott Balan forward Andrew Ianiero and defenseman Tyler Scott will each be wearing an ‘A’ when the Condors open the season by hosting the Ontario Reign on Saturday. “We’re just going to have to see what happens as it goes along before we name a captain,” Raymond...

Immigration issues will keep two major players in the stands when the Condors open the ECHL season Saturday night against Ontario at Rabobank Arena. Goaltender Yutaka Fukufuji and forward Mark Derlago were left off the team’s opening-day roster, which was submitted to the ECHL office on Wednesday. Condors coach Marty Raymond said Derlago’s immigration could be completed in time for him to participate in the Oct. 22 game against Stockton but that Fukufuji may have to travel to...

Since the Condors are now affiliated with the Ducks ...  Memo to Fox Sports West execs: Get rid of the low-ice cameras! If any of you hockey fans haven't had the “pleasure” of watching a Ducks or Kings broadcast on Fox Sports West or Prime Ticket this season just wait. One can't describe the frustration of trying to watch these telecasts. Some moron in a suit must have thought it would be a great idea to try to show a hockey game from front-row seats. Problem is, you miss...

The Condors trimmed their roster by three on Monday and got down to the business of preparing for the upcoming season during a lengthy practice at Rabobank Arena. Forwards Michael Handza Tyrel Lucas were released as was defenseman Christoffer From-Bjork. That leaves the Condors with 23 players — 13 forwards, including center Matt Caruana who will practice with the team for the first time on Tuesday; seven defensemen and three goaltenders. The team must submit its opening-day roster...

The number of players assigned to the Condors by Anaheim's AHL affiliate, the Iowa Chops, continues to grow as center Matthew Caruana and goaltender David McKee are headed to Bakersfield.   McKee, starting his third pro season, will arrive in Bakeresfield today while Caruana, a rookie is expected on Monday.  Caruana was the second-leading scorer at Niagara University as a seson last season and played18 games with Portland in the American Hockey League — five in the...

Defenseman Kevin Truelson informed the coaching staff after practice on Wednesday that he was quitting the team and going to pursue employment outside of hockey. “He said he wasn’t having fun any more and it was time to move on with his life,” Condors coach Marty Raymond said of Truelson Thursday morning before the team left for a preseason game in Las Vegas. “We have to respect that.” Truelson, 27, scored 144 points in 189 games for the Condors over the past...

Expect plenty of physical play Thursday night when the Condors travel to Last Vegas to face the Wranglers in the first of three preseason games for the Condors. Most early preseason hockey games at any pro level are a physical affair as players on the bubble are literally fighting for a job. It’s the same for the Condors, whose numbers are swelling daily with the addition of players from American Hockey League camps. There were 15 forwards in camp on Wednesday, but that number...

Mark Derlago is headed back to Bakersfield. Derlago, who scored 57 points (39 goals, 18 assists)  in 68 games as a rookie with the Condors last season got a sniff of the American Hockey League with the Manitoba Moose last season and signed a contract with the Moose this past summer. Bakersfield retained his ECHL rights and on Tuesday Derlago was re-assigned to the Condors by the Moose. Derlago’s 39 goals led all ECHL rookies last season and was third overall. Derlago will...

It was only practice. Practice, as Alan Iverson might point out. We’re talking about practice! Yep. It was only practice for the Bakersfield Condors Sunday at the Ice Sports Center but it was also the annual Open House and upwards of 1,000 fans came out to see practice. That’s more than some current, and past, ECHL teams draw for games. Even playoff games. Interest is running high this season in Bakersfield, no doubt partially fed by Bakersfield’s affiliation with...

There were only 19 players on the ice for the Condors on Saturday as they opened training camp in Bakersfield at the Ice Sports Center but the cavalry is on it’s way — up to 10 more players are expected to join the team before a series of three straight preseason games starting on Oct. 10. That will make for some difficult decisions for Condors coaching staff, which has a lot of players battling for just a few open roster positions. 7 “There are a lot of good hockey...

The Condors will be a little short on bodies when they open training camp at the Honda Center in Anaheim on Friday, but there should be plenty of bodies to call upon when they head into the first of three straight nights of preseason games on Oct. 10. Bakersfield opens training camp with 17 skaters (including five tryout players). Forwards Matt Pope and Dale Reinhardt will be on hand on Saturday for practice back in Bakersfield and defensemen Martin Frechette and Tom Morrow should be in...
