Your favorite restaurant dive
Of course, we don't mean dive in a bad way.
But not every restaurant has white table cloths and cold salad forks. Some have both real people and real food, the kind you eat when you are around real people. Elegant no, but fun yes. And those are the kind of places we'd like to know where you like to go to have some good food that's served with a little attitude. My all time Kern County favorite was Green's on 178 on the road to Bodfish which back in the day served a Sonora Enchilada for $2.50 that would feed you for a week. The Burger Hut on 19th Street is a local favorite. Posted by Steve E. Swenson 12 comments from 10 users

Dave's taco stand at 26th and Chester. It is almost a local historical landmark! posted by

Dave's Tacos are garbage! I wouldn't feed that slop to a bum! The only way that Dave's Taco's are even tolerable are if you are drunk.

I have tried Pastrami sandwitches all over town. Pastrami is my favorite so I embarked on a search for the very best in town. My conclusion is that Jolly Kone on So. Chester near Floyd's is by far the best . If you like pastrami, check it out. posted by

TomTs or whatever the name is on Chester and Roberts Lane serves up a good pastrami and it makes two meals for me. I just read a restaurant review by Pete Title and he swears by the pastrami at the Prime Cut on Brimhall and Calloway. Not really a dive but the Tom's place sorta is. An old Golden Ox I believe. posted by

If on the Northwest side then its Country Boy (10211 Rosedale Hwy Bakersfield, CA 93312 (661) 589-0822 all the way! Fried burritos and they fry their hot dogs like L&L Jolly Kone on Olive drive use to. If on the Southside then Burger Depot 6801 White Ln Bakersfield, CA 93309 (661) 396-8737 puts out a pretty good burger and their Onion Rings are great. If downtown not so much a dive but Happy Jack's 1800 20th St Bakersfield, CA 93301 (661) 323-1661 for a burger and some pie. Oh and don't forget about John's Burgers 1000 Oak St Bakersfield, CA 93304 (661) 324-8131. Order a BS Breakfast Burritos or Hot dogs or fried zucchini...
